I'm not sure if anyone has heard of this book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrnes yet, but it is absolutely AMAZING!!!! It personally has changed my life. I strongly recommend all to read. There is also a dvd if you're not the reading type. It's all about "the law of attraction" and how powerful our thoughts truly are. I just loved this book so much that i just felt the urge to share.

Those who have read or saw the movie, feel free to let me know what you thought. :)

I have seen the video, and with all due respect, I have to say it's pretty banal, it's main message being "think positive", with it's secondary message being "if bad things happen to you it's because YOU have attracted them with your negativity". Sorry, that's BS.

Also, it is wholly geared to a sales-oriented materialistic society, being mainly anout having more stuff and money. No surprise there, if it were about healing the world it wouldn't have been quite as successful.

There is no "Law of Attraction".

Anyone with a critical eye can see through it as pretty silly stuff.

That said, if it works for you, good, it's like any religion. I wish I could simply believe, but faith isn't my strong suit.

Well just like anything else in this world everyone takes on to different things differently. I understand DATYdude what you're saying and it crossed my mind also but i truly think that positive thoughts if anything else just keeps a persons spirits up. They say in the movie that whatever makes you feel good to do it; because at the end of the day that's what we all really want, is to feel good. What makes people feel good are different. Some people feel good when they have money, some people feel good when they have love, some people feel good when they have inner peace and i think that's all the movie was trying to say. Sure they concentrated somewhat alot on having money but let's not kid ourselves, money for the most part makes the world go round. You're totally right when you said "anyone with a CRITICAL EYE can see through it as pretty silly stuff" but someone with hope in their eye can see potential in motivating yourself to be more positive. And i for one believe in "like attracts like", i believe that we're all energy sources that can attract good and bad energy into our lives by the way we think. I'm not saying to live your entire life through the theory of law of attraction, i'm just saying that for someone who feels down and out it really just puts a surge of hope and motivation into ones soul. It just depends on the individual and what they take from the book/movie. However i respect your opinion like you've respected mine and i hope however you live your life works for you because that's all that matters in life is how you feel and think about yourself. Whatever helps you sleep at night, right?

I heard some of the people who were involved in The Secret speak at the recent wealth expo. I must admit that it sounded very much like they had trolled all the self-help books starting back with Norman Vincent Peale and Napolean Hill up to more modern times for their words of wisdom and the common thread they identified...the law of attraction aka the power of positive thinking etc.
Having said that one should never underestimate the value of these types of books in any individuals life. At any point in time it is not hard to find an idea, or a phrase, or an image in these books that resonate with where we are in our lives. Words that stirs our thoughts.
Reflecting on our lives, our goals and the paths we wander is never a waste of time IMHO.
Glad you found the book useful...and I hope it helps get you to where you want to go and to achieve the goals you want to reach.

This might help with some info on "the Secret"

http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2007/03/05/the_secret/

My favourite "The Secret" parts are the

-The titular "secret" of the book is something the authors call the Law of Attraction. They maintain that the universe is governed by the principle that "like attracts like" and that our thoughts are like magnets: Positive thoughts attract positive events and negative thoughts attract negative events. Of course, magnets do exactly the opposite -- positively charged magnets attract negatively charged particles -- and the rest of "The Secret" has a similar relationship to the truth.

-google "Hicks" and "The Secret" so you can hear all about the Abrahams

(cue spooky music)

Ariel I agree with you about being happy and positive. Certainly much of the good in my life has come because of my positive outlook but I also no a number of miserable assholes with lots of money and power. Attraction? I don't think so.

I think the most important message that comes out of "The Secret" is that if you can package a well-worn idea properly, you can get stinky rich.

I saw the video also and contrary to the implied suggestion that this is some "secret" that was written on paper and shown to just a few it can be found in any number of other books as stated above especially "The Power of Positive Thinking". It is nothing new and is just receiving so much attention now because Oprah (that lady is dangerous) has made it one of her book club choices and has been actively promoting it.

Although there is nothing wrong with being positive there is no guarantee that you will get the results promised in the book or DVD. In fact I know of someone who was at a vunerable point in his life and became so convinced that this "secret" was so powerful and the way to go that he made some stupid choices based on the "Law of Attraction" and he went from owing a really nice house to being homeless in a few months. Like anything a little caution and a critical eye are advised when you come across any book or scheme that promises that by following their method your life will magically become grand and all your problems will be solved.

That's all very true. I guess "the secret" is good for those who were feeling espicially down, who needed something or someone to tell them that there is hope. And i know that people should already know that but sometimes in life you forget that you truly are the master of your own life. And a lot of times people let outside influences run their life, so they end up miserable. The Secret is good only to motivate and encourage someone, not necessarily to put your life savings or jump blindly into. For me personally, all it did is uplifted my spirits and REMINDED me of what i've always already have known. But it was just nice to have it reitterated (spelling?).

Positive thinking and confidence are always important in attracting women. I didn't realize this was a "secret" Save your money on the book.

I detest "The Secret". Positive thinking is one thing, but this takes it one step further to say people actually encourage tragedy. The bias for material goods is also ridiculous. To me this appeals to the weak minded and the lazy.... the same people who embrace Scientology or all those middle aged women who go to witchcraft shops looking for mystical stones to improve their lives.

Ariel, I have seen the movie and have read various books dealing with the law of attraction over the last few years. There is nothing new in the Secret, and sure the movie is a bit commercial, but I still recommend it. There are many skeptics, and many people are criticizing it without having seen the movie or having read the book, or without having tried to use the principles in day to day living. Their loss.
