The round 2 Jose Theodore thread.

Well, who would have "thunk it."

He made 50 saves against a power Stars offence and went for his 3rd overtime win of the series. Anyone who has watched any of those games could tell you the Avs reduced quality chances and kept guys away from Jose the most part. At the same time facts are facts...and on paper Theodore and his 3 wins in OT look fantastic. This is on paper! I mean we can talk about "golies best friend" and "cutting it close" all we want, but the guy looked very good and solid in the final series game.

I spent many summers and winters in the city of Le Mont Royal, I have enough family in that city too, I honestly have to say...I'm pulling for the now down 3-2 Habs. I have to ask though, if Jose goes on...and the Habs are done...will there be a huge backlash of opinions on that deal? At the time it looked like the right thing for the Habs to do, but let's face it...it was a huge deal involving a huge name. The Avs did it with confidence and they seem to be showing why. For sure he has some confidence back, and he is around nothing but pro guys that expect to win. That is a good dressing room for any player to be in.

Was it that great of a move now? I'm curious as to what Hab fans think.

Not being a Habs fan at all, I feel Montreal did the right thing for sure. Hind sight as the say is 20-20 however at the time before the trade Theodore was pathetic and continued use of him I doubt they would be in the playoffs. Conversely, not being a Leafs fan, I feel the decision to stay with Belfour caused them the chance to be in the playoffs.

Theodore didn't really goal well in this series. Until game 5, his save percentage was about 86%. The only reason the Avs are advancing is because Turco played even worse.

If Carolina had stuck with Gerber, Montreal would also be in the second round.

not to mention, both of these goalies needed to move on... err, a change of scenery...

I have a feeling Theodore is only going to get stronger. Isn't sports always like that? The guy that was down and out, has the last laugh.

That could be the case, he is too young to be washed up overnight. There are also recent precedents - Hasek was terrible all through Detroit's series with Vancouver a few years ago - the Wings scored their way out of defeat because the Canucks couldn't play grown-up hockey with a 2 goal lead for three straight games - but he settled down after that.

I didn't watch much of Dallas-Colorado. Despite the criticism of both goalies, this was one of the lowest scoring series so far. On the other hand, the shot totals were low until the Stars' 52 in game 5, and this was two teams which chocked badly in the previous two playoffs, so maybe they were lucky to draw each other.

In 2004, the Avs were mostly outclassed by San Jose, only a couple of huge games by Aebischer prevented a sweep. Theodore will probably have to do the same thing or better in the next round.,

Huet is better and Ted had alot of family baggage! His contract also paid him too much. Great move by the best GM in hockey!
He always seems to strike gold at the trade deadline every single year. It's uncanny. His weakest moves have been in his choice of coaches. Hartley, Granato? Even Crawford's showing himself to be not so great. He just had an incredible lineup. Quenneville's pretty good.

Suprisingly.

I guess those ST LOU LOU flops were not his faullt after all. (There I go blaming the coach again)

I said he was "pretty good", not the second coming of Toe Blake.
