This topic is not another sex-companion robot but (for me) is a very scary addiction that allows those stricken with grief or the socially clumsy to leave life and almost voluntarily enter the computer prison outlined in the movie the Matrix.

This AI bot will study past emails and pick up thought patterns and speech nuances to recreate a person. Add voice synthesizing and they are with you 24/7. No grief, reality has left.

For those who lack social skills instead of moronic how to get laid videos, you can make up your own companion - give her a name and now you are in fantasy land.

The power the providers of this this device can have is scary. Besides subliminal advertising, you could influence prejudice, political influence, etc.

Sex dolls I view as an elaborate sexual aid, this seems much more sinister.

As opposed to paying someone to have sex with you, tell you how handsome and sexy you are, and pretend to enjoy every second of her time with you. That's not a fantasy?
I agree. A 976 phone app in your hand with 24/7 service.

Thanks for the warning.

As with any new technology, there are always warnings about where it'll take us. Hasn't stopped us from pursuing that technology regardless, and I seriously doubt it'll stop us with AI.

Will this impact our relationships? Undoubtedly. We've already seen how social media has influenced our interactions with our fellow man (and woman), and not in a good way IMO. For the most connected society ever, we strangely appear to be lonelier than ever before. Which is a natural lead-in to AI companions to alleviate said loneliness. Is it healthy? I honestly don't know. My gut reaction would be "no" from a societal standpoint, but on an individual level perhaps it'll serve as an aid to stave off mental illness.

When it comes to grief, does the positive or negative tip the scale? On one hand, you can virtually recreate a lost love one. Does this fill the hole? Or does knowing it's not really them make the experience hollow? Philosophically, is it not really them?? On the other hand, can recreating loved ones with AI help with the mourning process, or hinder it?

If it helps you overcome grief and make you happy, is reality important? Some prefer to live in fantasy. For others that fantasy is hollow. I liken it to playing video games when you're younger. I played plenty as a kid and could get absorbed into them, but as an adult, it feels like...why am I doing this? What's the point? This isn't real. Yes, it works as a distraction and can be enjoyable, but at the end of the day, it's not accomplishing anything beyond that, so how much value lies in it? I think it'll be different for everyone though.
