Today is the day baseball reveals some players names who were found to have used performance-enhancing drugs. 50-60 names are expected to be on the list, some former players, some current players that supposedly will include All-Stars and Cy Young winners.

Okay, any thoughts on who may be on the list? From the Boston Globe, some names being thrown around (Sox current and former players) include Trot Nixon, Nomahhh Garciapara, Varitek, Ortiz, Gagne and omg - Roger Clemens

Then again, the head honcho, George Mitchell is on the BOD of the Boston Red Sox, so will he name any of his players? Besides, we all know the Red Sox are squeaky clean in their lily white uniforms..... lol

Should be interesting to read the names then find out later what baseball intends to do about it.

Okay all you 'jealous' and 'envious' wannabees, get your names ready. Our friend Anderson is gonna have a field day with this one..... LOL

Well I guess I look at it this way. Nothing will suprise me today, no players names on that list will leave me with my mouth agape. As much as we (me included) have piled on Bonds, I think most people believe that there are many others who have taken PED's. It is hard to watch a baseball game today and not think that some of the players have taken something. As for why Bonds got all the heat, well it is only natural that a player who was about to become the HR kings gets more ink that a journeyman pitcher who is struggling to keep a job. Nobody cares about Jason Grimsley. You and I blow over the limit on a breathalizer test, who cares. Tony Larussa does it and it gets national coverage and a youtube video. Is it fair, no, but it sells newspapers.

So, if some of my favourite players are on the list, I won't be suprised. I am just more interested in what baseball is going to do about it. We all know there will be others besides the players we already know of.

I am expecting to hear some names we already know like Brady Anderson, Jeremy Giambi, Rafael Palmeroid, a lot of former players, many middle of the road pitchers.

Its sad but you get to the point when your surprsed if someone is clean these days in baseball ... Every baseball feat will be admired and questioned ...
hey Guyroch, if you have access to it, put on espn radio now. Colin Cowherd is talking about it on air. Rumours are many prominent Yankees are on the list. Then again, Mitchell being on the Red Sox BOD going after the Yankees - sheesh, the rivalry continues. Should be the hot topic of the day on his show from 10-1.

This could be very juicy.

I am not surprised at rumours of Roger Clemens. I always wondered why everyone jumped all over Bonds pointing out that evidence of performance enhancers was that historically, players his age were supposed to have reduced production, yet no one pointed any figers at the "Rocket" despite career years in his late 30's too.

Will any Blue Jays be named?

Not saying he did or didn't do anything untoward, but Toronto's own Vernon Wells followed up a 32 HR season with just 16 last year despite almost as many at bats. Could be the "contact year" phenomenon where a guy has a great contract year than sucks in his his first year of the new deal. Could be nagging injuries that he tried to play through. Could be something else.

The problem with this whole steroid era is that -- like playing the old board game 'Clue' -- everyone is a suspect!

What I am curious about is if the same thread starters will start threads when they list players that they might like and admire and call for the dreaded Asterik ****************

My rational opinion will not change one iota.

No ******** for nobody !!!!

Gaylord Perry admitted to using a spitter and he had what 300+ wins .

Well perhaps the game of baseball should be the one on trial for turning a blind eye to this mess for as long as they have.

BTW, Clemens' name is being reported very often on ESPN radio this morning, now also Andy Pettite.

Like TO once said, 'get your popcorn ready', this is gonna be quite a day.

Cal Ripken Jr., Steve Carlton, Griffey Jr, Ichiro Suzuki, Wade Boggs.

I don't think I would care at this point. I think that most of them have used some type of performance enhancing type of supplement or drug at some point, or had some type of advantage that other people have not had.

Ripken and Carlton are the two that I probably admire the most... but if I found out that Ripken used "uppers" or prescription pain killers throughout his career, would it tarnish my perception of him? Yes

What if he used something that is a form of steriod but was not a banned substance at the time???

Darwin's theory of evolution -- only the strongest survive (yes you biolgist out there, I know it's a caricature of the actual theory). Competitive Sports are games of survival... it's not figure skating (opps they cheat there)... ok.. it's not a beauty contest (oh... there are cheaters there too)... anyways, as long as it's a competition where someone wins and someone loses, even if its not for big league money... everyone is trying to get an edge on the competition... the conclusion is that some are going to cross the line... I seemed to have lost my point, but it was really profound... whatever it was...

It's being reported on ESPN Sportsdesk this morning that Clemens and Pettite are on the list.

I expect there to be a couple of scrubs from the RedSox but no stars... just to show there was "independence"

I was a HUGE Clemens fan in his first 10 or so years in the league... but gradually his ego tarnished his greatness for me. Even though I loved what he did with the Jays, I would not be surprised if his name turned up on that list...

Including the players union who fought so hard to protect the privacy of it's members. They are equally to blame for this mess.
