If ur a leaf fan u cant be happy about the cancellation of the season and what lies ahead for our beloved blue and white, when hockey does come back the leafs have Belfour and Tellquist under contract a defense of Klee Kaberle and McCabe and up front Sundin Stajan Tucker Nolan and Ponikarovsky and thats it could be very interesting to see what they do and how they will spend there money in the new world order.

Until the Leafs start drafting well and developing from within....it doesn't matter how much they spend or who they acquire.

Very few teams will have as many as 10 players signed. The planned this several years ago by having contracts expire this year or next. Many teams had as few as 11 players signed for 04-05. There will be a glut of players available, and many teams looking to fill rosters. What most teams will likely do is promote from the AHL where the guys have been playing all season and come much cheaper. For example the Leafs have Coliacavo(sp), Harrison, Bell, White, Wellwood, Perrott, Stajan & Williams playing on the Rock all season, plus Aubin & Racine in goal. Not all will make the NHL but since they will be available, younger & cheaper, I'd bet severl will make it. The same process will follow for most teams. Many 30 something, expensive vets will be let go, either they are too costly or rusty from a year off. If the league starts up next season, or whenever, I'd bet there will be a huge turnover of players across the whole league. Many have played their last game in the NHL.

That way you'll be able to tell us which players "deserve" to have sustained permanent life-threatening injuries, like Steve Moore.

If your a Leaf fan you can't be too happy with a salary cap , and especially one around 42 million. The next team the leafs uce will look a lot different then the one were use to, and they will be a lot younger. A salary cap really hurts toronto, The Leafs don't draft well, they usually trade away there draft picks for aging players. I'm still haunted by the Tom Kurvers trade. Ton Kurvers for our first round draft pick, which turned out to be Scott Neidamyer. As Cliff Flethcher once said, "Draft Shmaft". That seems to be the leafs moto. The only way the Leafs ever became competative was through free agency. Personally I don't give a shit how they build there team as long as I don't have to relive the 70's and the Ballard era again. So one day I will have to pay $200 a ticket to watch shit, because when a salary cap is imposed, there is no way in hell the leafs will lower there ticket prices. The rich will just keep getting richer. So I have to suffer along with all other leaf fans so teams like Pheonix, nashville, Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina, 3 teams in the New york area and 2 teams in Los Angelas can surrvive. Why should we care if the people in these cities don't give a shit. Gary, where the hell were you when Winnipeg and Quebec were in danger of losing there team, at least these cities supported there teams. Way to go Gary. The real losers here are the fans in Toronto. I think for compensation he should give the Leafs Sidney Crosby.
