The "Entertainer" has died

Former NHLer, Eddie "The Entertainer" Shack has passed at 83, RIP.

He was funny , bit of an instigator and always entertaining when he played.

Met him in a bar one night. Was super friendly and the 'stache was even more impressive in person. RIP.

Me also, he was super friendly , always smiling, he enjoyed life in his retirement years.

A true character of hockey.

He wasn't afraid to fight when he needed to - even took on Gordie Howe. He was a world class figure skater, taking lessons from Toller Cranston.

His doughnut shop, never got beyond Bolton.

Seemed like a nice guy. Toronto fixture. Saw him play in 74 against the Rangers with Derek Sanderson. Eddie was skating in front of the opposition bench goading them good naturedly. Always looking for a "real bargoon".

Eddie did well financially, he helped get the Shoeless Joe's chain off the ground. For a while he was a regular at the Eglinton-Oriole Parkway location. He moved to Bolton in the 80's, where he went to after that, I have no idea.

Will Ferrell made a film about his and Toller's exploits.

During the news reports of his death, it was mentioned he played 1047 games in the NHL. He always came across(or was portrayed) as a buffoon or a clown. However, you don't get to play that many games in the NHL unless you have some talent. It's a shame that got buried(no pun intended) by his image. By the way, I believe he was delivered at birth by Joe Bowen's father, both from Sudbury.

i remember years back golfing at a course Eddie ran.....the tee markers were the shape of Eddie,s nose.....and during the round, he made the rounds with a cart and some pop to give away, including our 4 some......probably from the Pop Shoppe..lol......RIP Eddie

I wish I could have met those old school Leafs. I was a kid of the 70’s so Daryl Sitler, Mike Palmateer, Lanny McDonald etc. I even ate at John Anderson’s burger place on yonge street a few times.

I know now, that the leafs sucked and will continue to suck, but those were fond memories as a little kid playing hockey.

I lived and died by the "Sittler , Salming, McDonald...." era Leafs and I also ate at John Anderson's!
