Bane is the new bad guy. Played by Tom Hardy from Star Trek Nemesis (Jean Luc Picard's clone.)

For such a hyped film this an underwhelming trailer. I don't know who this Bane guy is but he's rocking a pretty cool winter coat.

Bane is supposedly Bat Man's match.

He's incredibly intelligent, and physically overwhelming. He figures out Bat Man's true identity as well and in the comics suceeds in breaking Bat Man's back and leaving Bat Man a parapalegic.

Could be good if it ends with Batman's back being broken and not show his replacement or recovery.

In the comic books, Bane was the only villain that actually "beat" Batman. In the farce of a movie that was the George Clooney version of Batman, Bane was a pawn of Poison Ivy and an idiot. In the comic books, Bane figured out the identity of Bruce Wayne and subsequently broke his back (literally, over Bane's knee) causing Bruce Wayne to turn the mantle of the Batman over to Jean-Paul Valley (aka Azrael) which in turn caused a rift between Wayne and Dick Grayson (the first Robin).

I know that's not the storyline in the movie but that would make for an awesome trilogy to remake Knightsfall and Knightsend on the big screen.

As someone who has seen both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (easily the best Batman movies that have ever been filmed), I am eagerly awaiting the final trilogy of The Dark Knight Rises. I am especially interested in how both Bane and Catwoman will be portrayed.

In the comics, Bane is indeed one of the most formidable villains that Batman ever faces (second only to the Joker), combining brutal strength with a keen intellect (and nothing at all like Batman & Robin with George Clooney -- the less said about that abomination of a film, the better). I am curious as to how Tom Hardy (who is certainly capable of highly physical roles, as can be seen in films like Bronson and Warrior) and Christopher Nolan will interpret this character.

I am also curious as to how Anne Hathaway will portray Catwoman. Will she be portrayed as something of a vigilante (a mirror image of Batman), or more of a demented character?

azreal goes off the script and ends up being a bad guy and bane beats him as well but does it as a friend of batman. he is a good guy half the time and bad guy the other parts. it would be incredible if they did the knightsfall stary arc. sadly it won't happen, they will go back to the beginning again and do the creation of batman and watch him fight the joker again.

Christopher Nolan has never made films that pander to a specific audience, that has been the secret to his success. He is also politically astute. With Insomnia, an unjustly neglected film, he gained the support of two very influential actors (Al Pacino and Robin Williams) who lobbied for him to get the Batman reboot.

Here's an interesting but unfortunate bit of trivia. Jeep Swenson, the origional Bane, died within months of the release of Batman and Robin. He got off the juice, ballooned to 400+ lbs and had a heart attack. Here he is with Tom Lister (The Dark Knight).
