hehehe
He failed.
Again, seriously, I think this was a gross blunder. I don't like judging managerial moves by the end results, but if it had worked, we'd all be saying good things about Tony right now, so I guess he's got to take his lumps. Judging by the end result, it was TERRIBLE.
I'm SURE Isringhausen was dismayed by the call.
I know, first base is open, with the score tied, and one out in the ninth. I know, Berkman has been scalding the ball all series. I know, Kent hits into a lot of double plays. But, *he's got two strikes on Berkman*. It's not a full count, it's 2-2 - this is mostly a good pitchers' count - that is, most hitters hit well below their totals on this count, and Berkman is no exception. The way I look at it, you've finally got a decent chance to sit down their second best hitter, with their best hitter already aboard and away from the immediate danger of the batter's box. Why not take it, then face Kent, or, better yet, the pitcher, hopefully with two down?
I think Tony, who's usually a numbers freak, blew one.
