i was never really a fan of american muscle. I mean they're fast and all, but only in a straight line. I know if you give 5.5 L of displacement to a german or a japanese guy he'd create a heck of a lot more HP than their american counterpart... however as the old saying goes "there's no replacement for displacement"

case in point... Mustang GT makes 300hp out of a 4.6L V8???? or 240HP out a 4L V6??? thats far from impressive.... but hey... its cheap

Hey, I'm just trying to pick the best of a weak crop. Though to me the late 50's & early 60's were the most tasteless. But I've alway had a thing for those models - I even liked the design of their 80's J-car successors. In both cases, they were compromised by lousy fit & finish.

I've always loved liftbacks of all sorts and cars with sloping roof lines and rears. My favourite sedans of all time are the Mazda Serenia & early 90's Bonneville. I have a huge fetish for Citroens of the 70's (CX, XM), the Jensen Interceptor and the 76-80 Celica/Supra (I'd love to have the money for a project to restore and update one).

It's also consumer friendly. Squeazing big horespower out of small displacements is good for engeneering braging rights, but it's very taxing on the engine and requires expensive and obsessive maintenance. A decently treadted V8 will usually runs forever even if it wasnt assembled with the highest quality control. You can get longevity out of smaller engine, but only if the performance is toned down. It costs at the pump though.

not necessarily when you consider janpanese pocket rockets, Civic SIR's, Nissan Sentra SER's and RSX sports all produced 170+ hp out of a sub 2L engine. That and those cars will last through a nuclear winter. And those big engines dont always last forever, american cars aren't always known for their quality and in the past I've never owned an american car that lasted 4 years without breaking. My '93 civic on the other hand, well that thing is damn near indestructable.

Who have you been talking to? They are collectables, and in good condition are fetching a good buck. At least they had more of the original styling in them, than the Fox body did. It didn't look anything close to a Mustang, and that's why Ford went back to a retro style, to bring the fans back.

GM had great styling in the Monza, and there wasn't anything wrong with the Vega either. The new Camaro concept brings life back to the car with the 60s look, like the Mustang has. It looks better than any 70 plus Camaro.

Chrysler made a mistake in calling a 4 door a Charger, (who wants a 4 door General Lee or Daytona for that matter?) even though I like it's 50s leadsled styling and but the Challenger concept is hotter.

These new concepts will sell to Baby Boomers, who owned one, or always wanted one.

Well it certainly didn't remind me of a 68 or 69 Camaro. When I saw the grill (except for the bow tie) I thought Challenger and when I saw the rear quarter panels I thought Mustang. The roof looks more Dodge than GM. I haven't seen the rear end yet.
I don't know what your point is. It's the closest to the original Camaro, than any other drawing of potential Camaro concepts I've seen released by GM. I'm not fussy about the rear yet, after seeing some closer retro stylings in print, but then the rear of the Challenger doesn't look close to the original either.

There is certainly a little uninformed snobism working against my Monza. As you may know this body style debuted in 1972, based loosely on the concept '68 Pontiac Banshee, and '70 4-Rotor Corvette (never built) who's stylling was acclaimed in Europe, slightly preceeding the highly desireable Lancia Beta & Gamma liftbacks & Citroen GS and having echos of Alfa Junior Z in the long-hood / plunging hatch profile (granting that the Zagato was much better executed)

The style was used in GM's German nephew as the Opel Monza which remained viable into the mid 80's, while the coupe version was borrowed for the lighter and sportier Vauxhall Firenza in the UK.

The first generation J-bodies also suffered from a double standard. Why was the stylling of the fabled Honda CRX cool while the J-car hatchbacks weren't? Aside form the lenght difference, their silhouettes were virtually identical, and the GM's were first by 2 years.

Actually the Sentra SER has the Altima 4 cylinder engine, not the 1.8 or 2.0. I know alot of owners who are having trobles with that car. The old Nissan 2.4 from the Stanza/Axess & early Altima was virtually indestructibe, but once pushed over 150 HP, it's not nearly as trouble free.

Your '93 Civic is a durable car, but if memory serves me right, the Civic was still around 100HP at the time. Sentra & Corrola were bellow 100.

While indiovidual owners have widely varying experiences, the more scientific evidence would seem to come from fleets that see heavy use. There are very few Taxis on the road with engines smaller than 3000cc, despite the fuel costs of running a car 18+ hours a day, so the decision must be based on the relative cost of parts & maintenance.

the honda S2000 is something like 240ish hp also isn't it? cept with half that displacement LOL

its only a matter of time now before 2soonjr chimes in now lol

The other day I saw an open class race at Cayuga. Out of all the cars that were there the Mustang Cobra supercharged beat the pants off every other car including a Viper.
