Not quite, I see a wide variety of films every year. For overall lack of quality the worst years are 2001 and 2009...didn't think that highly of Avatar.

Best movie for me has to be John Wick. I crave cinematic violence done tastefully, and this one hit just the right spot.

Worst: Guardians of the Galaxy. I found it really slow and kept waiting for it to get better. In my opinion, it never did.

I liked Guardians, I watched it in the "motion seat" or whatever it's called...it became a bit of a thrill ride of sorts...but watching it again at home didn't elicit nearly the same response.
Interstellar was probably my favorite.

My worst was The Hobbit 3... but I pretty much knew that one going in.

Two movies I thought I wouldn't like and was initially reluctant to see. 1) I loved Guardians of the Galaxy. Best Marvel movie for me by a country mile. The characters were unique, the cinematography excellent and there was certainly enough action to keep me interested. 2) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - I thought it was going to be a cheap rip off of a profitable franchise. Excellent plot, well acted, terrific make-up (whatever they did).

One movie I expected would be good and was: The Imitation Game

The worst is a close call between Neighbors and The Interview (common denominator - Seth Rogen). I find it like choosing between two piles of horse dung.

Best: Gone Girl. I enjoyed the hell out of that movie! Runners Up: Interstellar and Edge of Tomorrow, the latter being a surprise hit to me.

Worst (that I saw): The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. I went in not expecting much and still left disappointed. Runner Up: Noah.

Best (English Language) I've seen this year: "BIRDMAN"

Simply brilliant and impressive in so many ways. Would love to see Michael Keaton take his first Oscar home.

Well deserved kudos to Maestro Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Worst (English Language) Film: "The Judge"

I was expecting so much more from the pedigree involved but when it just turned into another-dysfunctional-family-melodrama-sunday-night-hallmark special, I only stayed for for Duvall.

Major letdown.

I loved all 4 of these:

Grand Budapest Hotel
Guardians of the Galaxy
Nightcrawler
Foxcatcher
(listed in the order I saw them during the year.)

I like most movies and there were none that I hated this year.

Haven't seen Birdman yet, but Whiplash will be hard to beat. Quite frankly, if JK Simmons were in the running for Best Actor there would be no argument about who would win.

But I'm also guilty of putting Birdman on the back burner. I'm so stoked about Signor Inarritu's next project The Revenant, that Birdman seems irrelevant to me. The Revenant is a Western set in the Canadian wilderness (filmed in Jasper) and it has Tom Hardy. A two run homer for me. Eventually I must watch Birdman, just to get a taste of what's coming next Christmas.

Probably the worst movie I saw last year was in December,,,, Dumb and Dumber 2 was horrible. I couldn't even tell you the plot, I completely zoned out.
