From now until the end of February I'm going to indulge my passion for movies - up next Her and American Hustle.

So what are some of the best films you've seen this year? I take in approximately 20 films a year and the film that has the pole position so far is Rush.

Here are the IV Award for Best Film for the decade.

2010: Inception
2011: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
2012: Moonrise Kingdom

Rush was my favorite until 2 days ago when I saw Philomena. Great performances by Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, who also co-wrote and produced the movie. The movie, which is based on a true story, doesn't go in the direction you would think after seeing the trailer. Highly recommended. Great date movie too.

How was Thor's performance in Rush? I've been avoiding it because I can't stand him as an actor.

I'm not a big fan either but he was ok, way to pretty to play Hunt and IMHO Daniel Brühl as Lauda out shone the rest of the cast.

They messed with the actual facts and timeline of the story a little but not nearly as badly as I was expecting. Opie did a pretty good job without embellishing the actual events.

See I think Opie is a really good director; I just wasn't able to get past Thor as the lead. I may give it a shot should I download a copy or if a friend brings one by.

IV, what did you think of Don Jon? Some interesting and funny insights with JGL portraying a guy's conflict between the love of his life and...internet porn.

Really good performances from everyone in the cast.

My favourite movie of 2013 was Upstream Color. Very different and thought-provoking; low-budget speculative fiction from Shane Caruth, the writer/director/actor of Primer.

I haven't seen Don Jon yet but I hear ScarJo did a spot on Brooklyn/dago accent. With ScarJo, her obscene good looks get in the way of the roles she's given. She's never reproduced the form she showed in Lost in Translation (she was 18 when the film was shot) but she's getting rave reviews for Her.

As for Chris Hemsworth, his role in The Avengers was throwaway. I had reservations about him as James Hunt but my fears were allayed. IMHO, he was absolutely brilliant in the role; flamboyant, driven yet compassionate. He has earned his stripes as a serious actor.

Speaking of Her, Joaquin Phoenix has a taciturn personality but it looks like he enjoyed himself immensely making Her.

I've seen 42 and Fruitvale Station: Michael B Jordan is a force to be reckoned with and local boy Kevin Durand was downright terrifying. Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is next in that vein - Stringer Bell takes priority.

I lost it with Grace Randolph when she compared Paul Walker to Heath Ledger! Cut the crap, it's sad that PW is gone but he was a shitty actor. Heath Ledger was awesome in Monster's Ball. When Christopher Nolan cast Ledger as The Joker there was a vicious backlash. HOW DARE HE CAST A GAY COWBOY AS THE JOKER. My reply to the morons was:

If you want to know what it takes to be an actor, watch and learn...watch and learn.

Went to American Hustle last night. Bored to death and walked out after 45 minutes. Maybe I was expecting too much given the hype.

Can't wait to see The Wolf Of Wall Street.

Blue Jasmine was the best movie I saw this year.

Scarlett Johansson rocked my world in Don Jon.

Don Jon will have to wait but I will be watching Her on Boxing Day. I'll do a write up on it.

Well, the year isn't over yet and I'm still looking forward to a few films to see, "American Hustle" and "Inside Llewyn Davis" being two of them.

As far as my list goes, I might add to these but it's not going to change:

3) Alfonso Cuaron"s Masterful and groundbreaking "Gravity'. I hope Bulock gets the actual Oscar she deserves.

2) Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt" with a great performance from Mads Mikkelsen who rightfully won Best Actor at Cannes.

1) The great Wong Kar-Wai reminds us why he's one of the essential film makers of this or any other generation with his Magnificent and Epic "The Grandmaster".

So which one of these gorgeous ladies will get acclaim from the Academy next month. My nod goes to Brie Larson, she's had an outstanding 2013 (The Spectacular Now, Don Jon and Community), Short Term 12 is a standard human interest film but she lifts the film to a different level. She's always been adorable but I wasn't expecting her skills to refine to this extent.

"Her" - best romance movie of the year in my books. Pitch perfect performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johannson's voice.

A story to which I feel more than a few Terbies will relate. I'll interested in hearing the impressions of other members.

Walked out of Llewyn Davis after 25 minutes. Just not for me, even though I was a teenager in that era.

Going to see The Wolf Of Wall Street tomorrow. I don't anticipate being disappointed.

IMO, Cate Blanchett is a lock for Best Actress. Phenomenal performance.

Good list IV. I agree with most of the order of your top ten, especially about Raging Bull. The Fan 590 had an hour-long call-in segment a while back in which listeners talked about their favorite sports movies. After a 45 mins. when no-one had mentioned Raging Bull, I called in and the host asked me if I seriously thought Raging Bull was the best sports movie of all-time, to which I replied: not only is it the best sports movie I've ever seen, it's the best movie PERIOD.

I think Saving Mr Banks, was awesome and will be a big favorite. I do agree with all the above. I think Mr Banks touched a lot of hearts.
