I have heard that the best Chinese restaurants are full of Chinese people. It seems to make sense. Can anyone verify this to be true?

This might sound politically incorrect. Is it safe to eat Chinese food? I mean if toys made in China are not safe why would food be any safer?

how did you manage to connect the dots between manufacturing toys in china and food?
Unsafe practice in one area is unsafe practices in other areas? How does China grow its food? Didn't food produced in China kill a bunch of dogs and cats in North America (unsafe for dog is also unsafe for human?)? How much of the food in a restaurant in Canada originates from China?

The best Chinese food is the authentic kind found in Chinatown, not the westernized kind they serve at the malls, or the Mandarin.

I know Asians in Montreal and Singapore who will go out of their way to not purchase food grown or raised in China.

As for food cooked here...why not? :)

Yes ... cuz they all like to eat snakes and dogs. So depending on what you like you too can go to the best or worst chinese restaurant

Koreans (in Korea) were known to eat the dogs. But they do eat octopi still **alive** (in Korea)! Yikes!

The sad thing about Chinese restaurants in Toronto is that they, for the most part try to produce a low cost meal. To do that they use less than the best produce, chicken legs instead of breast, pollock instead of real crab, broken or pieces of shrimp instead of whole shrimp, broccoli stalks instead of florets, etc, etc. This allows an inexpensive menu - the few Chinese restaurants in Toronto that use first quality fish, meats and produce have expensive menus, and small portions - not what is expected by most Canadians of Chinese restaurants. Let's not talk about the Mandarin, they are about volume and designed to apeal to those people who enjoy a good "baggle" for breakfast.

Response to gyaos.

How fast we forget.......................................................................................all we have to do is look to our own home lands. Within the last century or two, things were not as good as they are now. The Irish potato famine drove hundreds of thousands of Irish to come to North America. Rembember the musical Les Miserable, it was about wretched conditions in France where the poor were starving and the rich had only the best. The french government made a gift of the statue of Liberty to the USA because it took in so many immegrants. The revolt against the Zhar in Russia was because of inequity between the rich and the poor. It was in the last century where the Urainians were starved by the Russians to the point where they even boiled down their wall paper for the starch to survive. They even resorted to eating grass to fill their bellies. Be it Italy, England or France, there were rich and poor, there were the hungry and the well fed. How many of you have stories from your relatives of bad times?
My point is that when things get tough, things that we do not eat here in North America becomes food.

How much food originates from China? Only the exotic stuff and even then it's mostly fruits that don't grow here.
Most veggies (even the specifically chinese veggies) are either grown here, the US, of Mexico. If you don't believe me, go to any of the oriental groceries and check out the (many) empty veggie boxes they leave lying around.
Meats and even tofu are local.

The case with the dog food was because of the processing. It wasn't the production that caused the problem, it was while it was being processed/packaged.
