This industry tolerates drug use more than other industries, much like the entertainment industry so it's more visible however I've never seen proof either concrete or anecdotal that it's more prevalent than in industries like Finance, Healthcare, Hospitality, etc. Drug and alcohol abuse is not uncommon among doctors, investment bankers, bartenders, nurses, academics, etc. it's just less visible than the idea of the strung out hooker.
