Oh, for Fuc* Sake.

The mix and match sale is a MARKETING GIMMICK. Nothing more. It is simply an EXCUSE to lower the price to a 75% markup so that you think they are being forced to liquidate the inventory.

You don't think they can find a pink to go with a pink?

I bet you wonder how they get the caramilk into the caramilk bar.

LOL:) .

Sits in a corner all alone
Sleep Country has a price match guarantee.

What to do: go to any other store and see if they have any clearance items. Make sure they have at least a box spring set as well.

I purchased a demo model mattress and split box spring set they were clearing out from the Bay. The only thing they could NOT sell me was the frame, so I promptly went to Sleep Country (at Lawrence and Dufferin) to get one. The mattress was due to be delivered in a week so theoretically, I had plenty of time.

There is a guy there (forgot his name, starts with a "J"?) who informed me that he could not only match the clearance price, but give me a brand new set. I also pointed out that the box springs were a split set and he said he would throw a matching set of split box springs without any problems, and also free delivery (which the Bay also offered). The salesperson agreed to match all those conditions after I showed him the receipt from the Bay that I had on me at the time.

This was the draw, to pay clearance price on a set and get a new one in return. The first quibble is that they cannot "beat" the price because the one I purchased from the Bay is a demo (as indicated on the receipt). The other caveat is that you have to buy some other stuff with the set as that is how they make their commission. This was no problem to me as I was already buying a frame, and I also ended up buying a mattress protector sleeve to block the mattress from getting stained with any, uh, intimate emissions. I then had to go back to the Bay, made sure the dude who sold me the mattress was not at the store, and promptly got a refund.

We now have a brand new queen-sized mattress set with a split box spring which matches. All told, with the cost of the frame and mattress sleeve, it cost me around $1400 including taxes. Not bad if you ask me.

If you want the same service, the Sleep Country at Lawrence and Dufferin is your best bet. Sorry I forgot about the name, it was last year when I bought the set.

Ok, so I finally have the answer. I decided to goto the source and ask the store manager at sleep country how they get the mix & match.

This is what I was told... Every style of the bed the manufacture make has its own unique color and material design. The manufactures buy more material than they actually need to save money by getting it in bulk. At the end of the year there is always leftover material from the various different styles. They take all that material and use it when make more beds of different styles. Because they are using left over material from different styles its hard to get a matching set.. The manufacture then offers Sleep country a rebate when selling these mixed match models.

Again thank you to everyone who took the time to try and answer this question.

Thanks

You need to ask why there are different colours and patterns anyway? The first thing everyone does is cover the mattress with a sheet - nobody sees the mattress...

I believe I might know, but it is far more simple than that link that was posted above. I will tell you if I can get an appointment with Paris.

Don't believe ANY of the above!

Regarding the mattress/box spring mix and match sale...

The reality is that their are two alien species in contact with Earth.

One group of Aliens are invertebrate (they have no spines), therefore they desire the comfort of a VERY soft mattress, which they beam aboard their space vessels from random Sleep Country outlets. However, they only like blue or grey coloured mattresses!

The other group of Aliens simply prefer sleeping on an extremely hard surface. They also target Sleep Country outlets, only they are looking for box springs only. Coincidentally, they only like pink or beige box springs, which they also beam up to their space vessls.

Therefore, every 6 months or so, when Sleep Country does a store wide investory, they discover they have an inordinate number of blue/grey box springs, with a similar number of pink/beige mattresses. This is why Sleep Country regularly offers their mix'n"match sale!

As for how they get the caremel inside the Caramilk bar...caremel is as valuable as GOLD to both Alien cultures. They beam the caramel inside bars of pure milk chocolate as payment for the mattresses and box springs they teleport away!

Nicole, hope you enjoyed my theory, do I win the prize for creative writing?;)

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but they get the caramel into the caramilk bar by freezing the caramel...

If what the manager told you was true, EVERY place that sells mattresses would have a "mix and match" sale every year. But they don't. Why? Because each retailer has its own made up reason to have a sale.

Sears has its annual "White Sale". The Brick's gimmick is to market low payment terms. Sleep Country has a "Mix and Match".
