So much for my research ;( Do you know where the building where they actually worked was located Shakenbake?
I believe that I found out where the original building was located. It was, believe it or not, where the current medical sciences building is located. So, you weren't too far off! Silly me, I recall the plaque, buit not where I saw it during my days on campus.

From Professor Laurence Moran's website;

"The original building where the work was done no longer exists. It was torn down and replaced by a larger building where my office (Professor Moran's) is currently located. The plaque commemorating the discovery of insulin is attached to the side of the J.J.R. Macleod Auditorium. Across the street is the C.H. Best Institute. The Banting & Best Department of Medical Research is a research department in the Faculty of Medicine. Busts of Banting and Best are prominently displayed in the lobby of my building."

The Macleod Auditorium is in the Medical Sciences Building (where the old Schoolhouse used to stand). But, the Best Institute at 112 College Street is next to the Banting Institute at 100 College Street, which is quite a ways from 1 King's College Circle where Med. Sci is located. Sheesh! Now I am confused! I guess that the next time I am downtown, I should look to find that plaque and get back to you.....

Sorry about the confusion!

And low and behold.

An interesting article in the Toronto Star seemingly a large number of type 1 (Juvenile onset - insulin dependant diabetes). Seemingly some 87 percent of Type 1 Diabetics have close relatives who have it - a genetic link. And that this genetic link is related to allergic reactions to cow’s milk which set off the autoimmune response attacking and destroying the islands of langerhans.
