Does anyone have any info on a Thailand vacation as in the city or cities with the best beaches, hobbying, whether to book a hotel before the trip or when I get there. I heard it's a cheap vacation, any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Duly noted, thanks for the info.

There's many posts here with Thai info, if you do a search.

If you're spur of the moment & flexible, tons of bargains in Thailand. In SE Asia, your CDN/Baht goes a long way. However 5 stars Oriental, Banyan tree, Dusit can cost more than top end North American hotels, especially spa resorts unless you want to impress your girl.

Most know Bangkok/Chang Mai serve by major airlines. I prefer Phuket for its relax pace.

T.O. Thailand tourisum board will mail you a holiday package with overview info & colour maps, if you ask.

For booking, try

www.octopustravel.com

Few discount airlines now operate in Asia if you're looking to connect from Asian hubs or local flights

I spent a month in Phuket and other areas last year. If you like, PM me and I can try to help.

I had many other interests there besides women though.

Did you catch it there Alex52? Otherwise this post is bunk, so long as everyone uses their brain and has safe sex as everyone here does.

Can the OP read Japanese? I recommend the Japanese book called "Bangkok" 「バンコク」 ISBN4-478-05590-4. It has everything in it. Maps, hotels, restaurants, food, ferries and the SkyTrain, everything. I have never found a English book to match it. For mongering, go with Japanese magazine called "G-Diary". Absolutely fabulous, it even contains a map of all the MPs, OMPs, bars, nightclubs, eveything! There is no English magazine like that either. I say this because it doesn't leave anything out.

For English, Google search to the boards that literally handle Thailand's mongering scene and other great attractions in the country. There are loads.

Book a hotel before the trip. And read up on Thailand before you go. Learn to negotiate. Everyone's been screwed there the first time and you learn from experience going numerous times. Enjoy the strong CDN-BHT. It's not going to last.

That's far from the truth....

A huge percentage of tourists who travel to Thailand are from Japan....

There are some places that are Japanese only (probably for male Japanese workers who feel they got stuck in Thailand because their company brought them there)...but most places in Bangkok or Chiang Mai do not exclude non-Japanese....

The Japanese tend to travel all over Thailand as well and not just hit the tourist areas (like Phuket and Pattaya).... Many Japanese hit Nothern Thailand such as Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai....Most Japanese tourists like to experience the Thai lifestyle and culture and not just have fun in the sun (which a majority of tourists do when they go to Thailand)....
Not sure about Eastern Thailand (like the Eisan Provinces) because I haven't travelled there...

I met quite a few Japanese who have married Thai nationals and settled in Thailand....I think Japanese ex-pats enjoy the more laid back lifestyle in comparision to the rush-rush work-work lifestyle back in Japan....

Sometimes they might not seem friendly but its the Japanse way....More quiet and to themselves somethimes and I think many Japanese feel an awkwardness when dealing with foreigners (many Japanese try to avoid embarassing situations) ...but when you do get them talking (and drinking) they're extremely friendly....

Things to do in Thailand:

Go to Lumpinee or Rajamadern stadium in Bangkok- Two of the most prestigiuos Muay Thai stadiums in Thailand...Best exhibition of Muay Thai in the world....

Visit Khao San Road - See a lot of dirty hippies but there's a lot stuff to buy and places to eat....One of the most touristy places in Bangkok...Good place to go to buy gear for travelling especially for the beach (sandals, beach wear and surfer shorts)

Chiang Mai - Second biggest city in Thailand but it feels like a laid back town...Sunday Market in the old city is one of the most popular arts and crafts (and biggest) bazzars in Thailand...

Beaches - Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui, Phuket....Plenty of choices for island and beaches....Suntanning, Swimming, Surfing, Snorkeling, Sightseeing etc....

Sports - Go to a Muay Thai Camp and train Thai boxing....Don't have to ever have done it...A good camp will have a Pro Thai trainer work with you for the whole time you're there....
Shoot some guns....Chiang Mai and other cities have police and army gun ranges where you can shoot a wide variety of guns....Pretty damn fun....
And Golf---Can't really comment much about that since I hate Golf...but I do know they have a lot of Golf resorts...

Food - Plenty of places to eat everywhere....and a wide range of foods from all over Thailand and all over the world....You could go to certain places in Thailand for a year and wouldn't have to eat a Thai dish once if you didn't want to....A full meal can cost as cheap as a dollar or two....

Historical Places and Temples - Plenty of temples all over Thailand (called Wats)....Doi Sui Tep in Chiang Mai is one of the most famous ones located on top of a mountain....Plenty of historical monuments dating back from the Kingdom of Siam....

Spas and Resorts - Some of the best spas in the world....Go for Thai Massage...One of the best massages in the world....

Shopping - Plenty of shopping from clothes to electronics to Pirated DVDs (of TV shows and movies) and music cds, etc.....Bangkok would be the best place to shop.....MBK is one of the best places to go....Or if you really want to spend money go to the Paragon - Bangkok's most expensive mall (kind of a Yorkdale if it were a mall) - Has a Lamborghini and Ferrari dealership in it....

That's all I can think of for now (fucking tired - its late)....

Many stores have signs in Thai that say "foreigners pay double" or "no black people allowed" but if u dont speak thai u dont see it.

From what I read (might have been the Bangkok Post)....
Many blacks (from Africa) have been blamed by the Thai Police for dealing drugs....and other drug related crime....
Drug use has been on a rise again in Thailand....Though this time it is coke and not Yaa-Baa (Amphetamines)....
I guess Blacks in Thailand just have a bad rep....

It should be assumed that "falangs" will be paying double for anything they purchase....Shouldn't bother to put a sign that says that....;)

As for "English Only Clubs".....The English don't need to a sign for their bars.....Once they start drinking and acting like a bunch of loud "wankers" any non-English will leave on his own accord.....:D

The Japanese books show everything, including the "Japanese only" clubs. Both the nightlife and the everyday life, so my advice was if you wanted everything, it's simply provided in the books, written by the Japanese. As for getting into "Japanese Only" clubs in Thailand, I get in. They say "this foreigner can speak that language, why?"

There are many OMP (Oil MPs) that "cater" by writing instructions in Japanese but allow everyone in. I sure would like a much weaker Baht, however.
