I didn't know that in Ontario you could go to your family doctor/gp and get this as a man. Has anyone on here gotten on this as they get older ? What were the benefits what were some of the risks ?

In my non-medical ignorance wouldn't adding testosterone increase risks for cancer ?

Once you start TRT would you have to stay on it for life as your body stops producing testosterone?

Thank you in advance.

Are you trying to grow some moobs, have more body hair and loose hair on your had ? Also increases your chance of prostate cancer. Lots of side effects. What is the reason that you want this therapy? Some professional athletes do it but its illegal in most sports that I know of. Some pro road cyclists were caught doping with these because apparently it makes them leaner and help grow muscle but I dont see a reason for a regular person to do it unless you are very low and really feel it.

With all respect, you have no idea what you’re talking about. Proper TRT simply brings a man back into the “normal” range for testosterone. It’s usually done via a patch, cream, or injections. TRT has been around for a long time and is rather safe. It’s also not illegal when a doctor is prescribing it to you. Finally, if a doctor is prescribing it to you, they’re very likely monitoring your bloodwork. “Moobs” are not as a result of TRT, but rather increased estrogen (which is easily controllable). The illegality that you’re referring to is likely just outright steroid use rather than TRT.

OP, have you had a full hormone panel done? Those that I know who are on TRT can’t stop saying how much it actually helped and saved their life. Low testosterone has a number of concerning day to day effects on your life.

To answer your question, yes, TRT is for life. It’s been determined your body does not make sufficient testostone on its own. In addition, once you’re supplementing with testosterone, your body will make even less of it naturally (or will completely shut you down). It’s a lifelong decision but if you need it, you need it.

This is bang on. Sex is so much better when you have proper hormone levels.

Sex drive decline in some men could be due to a simple nutritional deficiency.

A lack of red meat in the diet may be the reason for loss of libido, according to an expert.

Pork, beef and lamb are rich in zinc - a key mineral for maintaining testosterone levels in the blood.

Maybe I don't but that's what I heard. For professional athletes it's a very grey area to use this therapy from my understanding . The only thing I know about this therapy is it's only should be used as a last resort for somebody who is extremely low on testosterone.

I might need to get a hormonal panel like the other person suggested. It is also true it is best to go with a specialist on this. A GP might not be the most well versed on how to prescribe the right amount.

I read somewhere that one of the risk factors for this is mood swings or aggression or even prostate cancer. Those that have tried it do you notice you're more aggressive? The last thing I would want is to be a crazed incredible hulk lunatic esp with Toronto's gun and knife culture now.

Before you start getting into synthetic RX drugs you might want to give some of the testosterone boosting herbs a try. I take 3 herbs (Tribulus, Epimedium and Maca) and I'm horny bugger 24/7.

What I like about the herbs they don't shut down your body from naturally producing testosterone like the drugs do

You might try weight training, as well. Mine was around 300, but went up to 500 with weight lifting and I'm no youngster.

@Phil C McNasty do you buy those herbs already in a supplement if so under what name?

Thanks
I buy them as supplements.

You can buy them in local health food stores or on internet (amazon, ebay, nationalnutrition.ca or iherb.com)
Tribulus: https://ca.iherb.com/pr/optimum-nutr...capsules/68617
Maca:https://healthfirstnetwork.ca/product/maca-root/
Horny goat (epimedium): https://www.nowfoods.ca/supplements/horny-goat-weed-750-mg-tablets-ca

I take 1 capsule of each after breakfast, and another 1 capsule of each after dinner.
So 6 capsules per day in total.

You will wake up with a boner every morning. Guaranteed!
You will also have more energy throughout the day.

You may also get pimples taking those herbs. Not necessarily
a bad thing as that could be the effect of more hormones produced.

If you feel like reading up on the subject this is the go to book out there that will answer all of your questions regarding testosterone replacement therapy.

The author also has his own website and forums that are an excellent source of knowledge as well. https://www.excelmale.com/

The information that Kathleen has provided here is pretty much on the money. Not a shock she's always been a sharp cookie on here.

Herbs really seem to work for some people and not so much for others. The main concern is that being a supplement there isn't any tight regulations on the quality and content in their capsules. Some actually have sildenafil (viagara) in them. This has been determined in lab analysis, gulp. https://www.npr.org/sections/health...there-may-be-viagra-in-that-herbal-supplement.

As for mood changes. Well low testosterone in men is linked to anxiety and depression. So getting ones self into the clinical normal range could theoretically help with that. Roid rage is linked of course to body builders and powerlifters who take amounts far exceeding clinical dosages. Even then this is mostly ''fake news''. Hate to borrow from Trump but it does fit here. It is my opinion that the guys doing the big amounts were the same guys who had insecurity and emotional issues before they even lifted their first dumbbell. And they carry their personality issues forward as they use excessive amounts of steroids and pack on copious amounts of muscle. So they just become bigger and louder versions of what they were before.

As for causing prostrate cancer. Dr. Morgentaler in his book ''Testosterone For Life" makes a strong point that most men with prostate cancer actually have low testosterone. I've never had one urologist say to me that there is a correlation between prostate cancer and therapeutic testosterone use. And I have run it by more than a few. So there should be no worries there.

The foremost authority in the states was Dr. John Crisler. Unfortunately he passed away lately. However he does have many video's on TRT on Youtube.

Sounds like TRT should be made mandatory for everyone
before entering their 'golden years'. The cost of it would more
than offset the cost of health care for elderly.

It's used to treat man-o-pause (no joke intended) and with regular blood tests, male HRT raises the patient's level back to normal range, for that patient.

Overdosing/abuse is a problem for sure, but responsible administered treatements prevent bone and muscle loss, as well as many other health benefits such as sleep and mental health. Sex drive and performance are not affected that much, other than to bring you back up to levels that were present before the lowered levels.

An 80 years old has his testosterone level brought to
the same level as when he was 30 years old by TRT.
Would he have his morning wood and sex drive restored?

Totally agree . . . . . .

TRT as a standard, utilizes synthetic testosterone. Our bodies internal sensors detect a synthetic foreign substance in our bloodstream, our own natural production of testosterone will shut-down.

Mother-Nature Rules!!!! . . . . . . goosing our own production of testosterone naturally is absolutely the best way to go!

DIET
steak, eggs, dairy
fish oil, avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil

NUTRITION
ZMA (zinc, magnesium)

SUPPLEMENTS
Tribulus (min 45% saponins)
D-Aspartic Acid (min 3 grams)

HORMONES
DHEA (min 50 mg)

EXCERCISE
High Intensity ---- Low Volume/Duration
