The self driving feature is cool but from what I have seen not very reliable. Unlike other companies Teslas dont use LiDAR and rely strictly on camera data. I think the main reason is to keep costs down. I dont see how their self driving system would be any good in conditions like thick fog/smoke or blowing snow.

That being said, I would like to see more people in Toronto be forced to use a Tesla self driving car. Make it so the car shuts down if they put their hands on the wheel.

The technology has made dramatic progress based on an AI approach trained by a million video frames a day. Driverless rides have been tested in Austin in preparation for the ride service launching next month. Musk also announced driverless deliveries would begin this summer.

this is going to move very fast IMHO.

The latest FSD versions are significantly better than anything prior, but its almost pointless for another reason - hands have to be on the wheel and you have to look at the road, thats called human driving, so if you need to reply to an email you can't - its still illegal to use the phone and FSD will remind you to put your hands back on the wheel after about 15 seconds and tell you to look at the road if it sees you aren't looking at the road (in cabin camera pointed at you the driver.

Anyway its probably better than 50% of the drivers out there and geting better.

telsa FSD taxi was launched in Austin, now looking at other cities. It’s early days but the pivot to AI has made the difference. Waymo will never be financially viable when those vehicles cost 200K each and your Model Y can be pimped out to provide a driverless UBER experience.

Waymos are the only autonomous cars on the road. Tesla's robotaxi service is not licensed as an autonomous car service; it is liscenced as a limo service, so there will always be a saftey driver involved, so it is not actually autonomous.

Waymo's cars are expensive, but they are actually autonomous. Tesla's cars are cheaper, but they are not autonomous, so comparing them is senseless. An expensive solution that works vs a cheap solution that does not work.

this is just a matter of timing. Tesla is being very cautious.

not only will tesla have a massive price advantage on HW, Tesla can operate on freeways (Waymo does not), Tesla will be able to produce robotaxis at scale far out producing Waymo.

Waymo has to map every new city, they are doing that now in Manhattan. Tesla gets a million frames of video every day globally.

Tesla has been talking about this for the last decade, they were the first to work on it and waymo beat them, now you are talking about timing? By the time Tesla is fully autonomous, there will be flying cars and teleporters.

Tesla's service can operate on the freeway because they have a safety driver. My car can operate on the freeway also because I am the safety driver, also known as the driver.

Waymo has to map every city because they are actually autonomous. Tesla does not need to map every city because they have a a safety driver. My car can operate in any city without mapping because I am the safety driver, also known as the driver.

Producing a non-working solution at scale is not a good thing.
