Came across this in the Canadian Tire flyer this week, anyone know if it is any good?

Would you actually be able to see the moon and planets with it? Perhaps even Saturn?

Search for an Astronomy group in your area. Hamilton has one.
They have website and email and ask them what their opinion is.

I did see Jupiter because of this group, the guy's telescope was about 12" diameter. It was blurry but it can be seen. I think he made it himself.
It almost look like this

Pass on the CTC one. Optics will be crap.
But flimsy mount is the worst part.
Mounts need mass to be stable.
Mass costs money to ship, so it is not coming via CTC's supply chains.

Definitely entry level. For sure you’d be able to see the moon with it. Doubtful you’d be able to see features of visible planets. I know I wouldn’t be able to see Uranus, but then I wouldn’t want to.
Seriously, if you live in an urban or suburban area, stargazing is a tough hobby with all the light pollution. As mentioned, astronomy clubs are good for providing a lot of information, providing access to decent gear and finding out if you want to get into it. But if you’re looking for something to get creepy with, this might just be the ticket.

I used to have a similar unit about 10 or so years ago.
The side optic take off was compatible with a M42 screw mount lens adapter I have for an old SLR in my film camera collection.
It was about a 1000mm no aperure about F/16 lens.

I used it at night to take not bad black and white images of the moon.
Coating on the lens was not well corrected so one colour roll I tried came back looking crappy.
I think I sold it at a camera swap meet for $20.

Got given something like this as a gift. Looked up model online and found out all it was good for was wildlife spotting. Newtonian/Dobsonians are large enough to collect enough light for Solar System and Deep Sky Objects. Or you could start with binoculars and observe the moon/brightest celestial objects.

A decent pair of binoculars are a great way to start. And a planisphere makes navigation easier.
