Telephone solicitation "how do you handle it"

Ok. what's the best way to avoid/limit/minimize the number of unwanted telephone calls from people who are just a pain in the ass???. Or how do you stop unwanted faxes from backing up your machine with junk mail.



This whole industry is out of control.

I just tell them to wait a minute....put the phone down and wait 5 minutes before I get back to it. They have all hung up by that time and never call back!

Hey Brat... for telephone calls and time permitting, I actually try to screw them up by interrupting their routine lines and asking them questions like their full names and why they work there. If I don't have the time and patience... I simply say "no thank you" and hang up immediately even if they're talking.

For the dreaded unwanted faxes, I give everyone one chance to remove me from their fax list by re-faxing the same sheet back with "take me off your fax list" in big letters done with a permanent marker. If their fax number is not listed in the ad, check the top of the page. If it happens a second time, I photocopy my big ass and send it to them asking to be removed immediately. It's worked twice! Does that mean my ass is too big?

The Toronto Star used to call me once a month with some stupid special. I swear it was the same guy every time. Each month I would tell them that I wouldn't allow their rag in my house if they actually paid me for it and to take me off of their list but each month they would still call. Finally, I told them I would very much like to subscribe to their paper as long as it came in brail because I was blind. I then went on to admonish the guy for a good two or three minutes because, being that they are such a socially aware publication you would think that they would have considered the visually impaired.

Five years later they have never called back not once

As for the fax machines:

After I installed it, the phone started ringing at 3 to 5 in the morning. One of the ads was for a florist in the area. I went there and told him about the ad and that is why I was there. Managed to get his fax # with the offer of a large order. At least $3000 for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.

Waited till they closed, scribbled all over 3 sheets of paper with a wide tipped pen. I used fine tape to paste them end to end. Dialed the #. as the first sheet came out the top of the machine, I taped it to the end of the third sheet making it a never ending loop. Pressed send. Stopped by the next day and asked if he recieved it?

Sent the same to others that had thier fax # to reply to.

I know a guy who when he got fax solicitations, used to send them a bill for the paper plus a harrasment charge. One of the companies even paid it.
