Telemarketers have been calling more than usual lately. I seem to recall that there is a no call list that I can get on. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

you have to specify to the caller that you want your name removed from their list. If you say ...f off and dont call me anymore...they will still call because you never asked to be removed.

...or you could record the "line disconnected" tone in your answering machine, followed by a second of silence and then your message. What that does is fool the dialing machine into thinking your number does not exist and it erases it from its database. There is something in the market with that does that, I forget what is called. You can always tell them to f off, it's more fun and therapeutic.
Does anyone know a good way to fool around with them?
Yep, try to sell them life insurance.

It is nuts . I believe if a business has to phone harass there customers they may not have a viable Product, service, charity or business. Rarely if at all has a phone call (out side of a good friend) has told me about something of great value or something I needed. Phone solicitation should be regulated if not band completely .

VIP near you....
Best way to get rid of callers I have found...

When they try to sell you something say

"your mistaken I have already bought it or I am already a client"....Presto instant scratch off the list.

The device you are referring to is called the Telezapper. I have found the easiest thing to reduce these annoying calls is to the tell the caller that they have dialed the wrong number when they ask for you.

I seem to get a bunch of calls wanting me to take a survey. So I ask how long it will take to complete. When I get the number of minutes I tell the person on the phone OK.. Sparky that will be $100, did you want to do that by Visa or MasterCard?

Now if you are truly a twisted person, you could always do this.

Get caller id, most of the marketers are a 800 number. I don't pick up and let it go to your VM. I think there is also a feature that you can ban someone from calling. (like banning the last number that called)

Currently I Am Paying A Company To Call 24 000 Homes A Day, Leaving Answering Machine Messages To Promote My Biz.

However, This Is Costing Me $200 Bucks A Day

I use this trick.
When they call, I sound very interested at first and let them ramble about their product for a few seconds. Then I say enthusiasticly " Oh wait can you hang on a sec? I am in the middle of cooking something and my pot is about to boil over! Let me go turn it off, I'll be right back"

Later I go hang up the phone when I hear it beeping for being left off the hook.

Unfortunately I don't get to do this much anymore if at all. It seems to have landed me on everyones "Do not call" list.

Much like spam in my email box, I will never buy anything from a telemarketer, whether machine or "human". If everyone would just do this we wouldn't need the government to step in.

As a matter of principle, I never buy from telemarketers, junk faxes or spam. I don't have call display and won't get it just to screen telemarketers (that would mean they've gotten the better of me, I feel).

There used to be a Canadian do-not-call registry:

I think the carpet cleaners are the worst. They call you up just when you are about to put that first bite of grub in your mouth after your hard days work. ...can we clean your carpets sir?......nope dont have any, I have hard wood....OK...we also clean your upholstery sir...nope dont have any, I have hard wood.

I always get a lot of calls to partake in surveys. So, I always let them do their little blab in the beginning, then when they are done. I ask them for their billing address. At this point they are usually baffled. They ask why? I say, I am a professional scientist, who charges $500/hour for my opinion and since your company is making money off my opinion I need your billing address. You will be charged for time docketed. One guy actually went and got his supervisor to come on the line. Its funny how you can turn the tables around!!!

If I took up every offer of 30% off my current rates I'd be making about $0.45 per minute!!!

Just like all those gadgets that claim to give you 20% better fuel economy. I installed ALL of them and it is now such a pain having to stop and empty my gas tank every 10 kms!! I mean, every time I look down, my gas gauge is on full again! jesus it's a pain....
