"In view of the actual results" the majority of legal firearms owners haven't done anyone any harm. These occurrences are what statisticians call "outliers".

Whatever they call them, it would be interesting to see if the parents of these children feel the same as you. Certainly, from the recent actions of and opinions expressed by the parent in Newtown, they would appear to disagree with you that the gun laws are sufficient. This is only one aspect of the gun problem in the US.
