Done Deal...

The Islanders have called a news confrence for Thursday to announce Ted Nolan as head coach. Neil Smith will be introduced as the new GM of the Isles. Watch your back Neil! :D

One would think that Ted Nolan learned his lesson or Neil Smith is prepared for Nolan. ;)

Glad to see Ted finally getting another shot in the bigs. Hopefully he's a little older and wiser - the Isles are getting a great coach.

I hope Nolan has learned to "play the game" in terms of watching what he says. Luckily for him, the Islanders are distant cousins to the Rangers and even Devils in terms of New York media's attention when it comes to hockey. He won't have a mic within earshot everytime he says anything at all.
Nolan will have to learn to be humble and watch what he says, even when and if he is correct.

I think that was the biggest reason for him to have been on peoples "no hire" list. Is there any proof on what may have took place with Mukler?

Aside from my 12.5% Ojibwa side...lol..

His tight fore checking style he used to coach in the old NHL was good. The amount of turnovers that caused, and how well coached Buffalo looked, disciplined, in sync with one another, always skating, always open, always playing the puck aggressively when the other team has possession and the fact that there is now no more red line...this could be interesting.

He has a way of making a team play as a unit which is always the most important thing!

His skill is getting a new group of guys to form a quickly bonded unit... he is an excellent 1st year coach because of his aptitude. He will make a poor team believe, and achieve. He insists on having a fast skating team... always have in the Junior's... He also likes having tough gritty players. I don't know how Yashin will fit in under these circumstances. I highly doubt he'd get along with Nolan.

Nolan was key in asking for and getting Miroslav Satan over to Buffalo from the Oilers in 1997 and now Satan is NYI's top performer. Other than that, the NYI's are pretty much an AHL team so I think Nolan will fit into the mix quite nicely.

excuse me if this sounds rude or racist, but is the 12.5% inferring alcohol?

as far as I know he doesn't drink because alcoholism runs rampantly in his family.

No. My grandmother has a unique background.

In terms of coaching, I see a guy like Yashin having more room now with Nolan. I see it as alomost a Jagr in NY type thing. Time will tell.

One thing that stands out about Ted Nolan is that his players love playing for him. He makes himself as accountable as the players.
