Anyone know any good techno (dance music) compilations? Ya know, the kind the EEs at Brass Rail are always dancing too? :D

digitallyimported.com

I am not sure if you can download anything, but my favourite radio site is www.digitallyimported.com based in US, you can find amazing artists playing there. Deep Dish is definitely are one of the top, especially life, also try Infected Mushrooms, latest albums where presented in Montreal are mind-blowing.
Welcome to the jungle of techno and trance :p

I'm with Esco, this stuff is pretty much all I listen to

Good torrent site for it...www.themixingbowl.org. Soulseek is another great resource www.slsknet.org

DJs I listen to :
Deep Dish (house/progressive)
John Digweed (house/techno/progressive)
Erick Morillo (and pretty much anything put out on the Subliminal Label) (house)
Sasha (his older stuff, and newest stuff, but I stay away from 2002-2004) (house/trance/progressive)
Tiesto (again, not his most recent stuff) (trance)
Radio Soulwax (house)
Danny Tenaglia (house)
Felix Da Houscatt (house)
Dave Clarke (techno)
Agoria (techno)
Derrick May (house, and one of the techno godfathers)
Juan Atkins (techno, another techno godfather)
Jeff Mills (techno, same school as May and Atkins)
Stacey Pullen (house/techno, apprentice of May/Atkins and Saunderson, the Detroit Techno GODS)

Global Underground is a good series of discs. A little more proggy, but some good stuff (#25 is GREAT....Deep Dish in Toronto. They played at Guvernment twice, once for the inpiration party, once for the release party, and both were KILLER nights)

**Edited to include a few more DJs**

Nice to see how some of you have truly good taste ;)

UMustang: I like your shortlist. Good to see someone else who's a little more 'oldschool'! With names like that, were you at Movement last year (DEMF)?

Keebler Elf: "Deep Dish in Toronto" in the "Global Underground" series as mentioned by UMustang is easily and readily downloadable from the net. It's a brilliant compilation.

I'm surprised most of you listed international DJs and skipped the local talent:

Greg Gow (Toronto)

Sydney Blu (Toronto)

Mark Oliver (Toronto)

Misstress Barbara (Montréal)

Maus (Montréal)

Alain Vinet, Tiga, XL (Montréal)

Mark Oliver's Saturday night at the Guvernment is an institution with one of the best sound systems in North America. No distortion at extremely high volumes. I don't think we could attract heavy weights like A v Buuren without this venue.

I wish I could have gone to DEMF/Movement. Its always been tough for me to get a few days off to head on down.

And yes, I named purely international talent just because it's easier to find compiliations by them, as opposed to local talent. However, locally
Mark Oliver
Kenny Glasgow
Greg Benz
John Acquaviva

A few more compiliations that you should check out
John Digweed & Sasha - Northern Exposure
John Digweed & Sasha - Reniassance (not sure of the spelling, but you can get the 10 year anniversary 3 disc set now. This is a classic!)

Locally, just to add ...

Max Graham.

And there are quite a few good ones to name from Montreal, such as Miguel Graca ( one half of the HOUSE outfit, Red Lite )

I'd say older tunes from, as already mentioned, PVD, Tiesto, and especially Ferry Corsten. I remember the first time I heard Goureyella at Pro Cafe from a set ( peeler's set that is ) by some Czech girl, Paula, I believe that was ... the music just sent chills down my spine.

Currently for Trance, AVB tops my list.

The Guvernment is doing it again with an awesome lineup. I am still debating if I should go and fight with the masses of shirtless, sweaty guys. BUT, the music will be phenomenal. I mean Buuren, Blank&Jones, Schultz, Deep Dish, and John Digweed under one roof!

Did anybody go last year, should I bother?

Decent list u have. Personally like the last 4 you have. Saw Jeff Mills live, can't say i'm impressed, sounds just like his CD's. Stacey Pullen is AWSOME!!! And don't forget Plastikman a.k.a Ritchie Hawtin in his early years. More of a techno and house guy myself. Not really into euro techno. Sounds fake and cheap (no offence). For house, i prefer more of a new york sound like Harry the bastard, Kevin Yost, Hed kandi, Blue six and todd terry. Now thats groovin'
