You can find fault with anything. Romeo and Juliet - she kills herself because Romeo is dead. Is that sending the right message to youth? Surprised there isn't a lineup of people saying don't teach this.

Perhaps the world needs to let people think for themselves. When I hear a joke, I realize it's a joke, not a directive. When I hear a fairytale, I realize it's not real and certain actions that take place aren't real. Is there an epidemic of children kissing each other without consent because the prince kissed sleeping beauty? No.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Problem is society has changed, where people complain at everything, the media catches on tells everyone on the internet, and companies/government react to these 0.001% of people. This in turn results in blanket changes to everyone treating everyone like a baby because some reason all the companies and governments think that because 1 person complained, somehow it means the other 35 million people in Canada think the same way.

No wonder people think western countries are nanny states where everyone is treated like total morons.

Even something basic like street signage. I can understand thing like upcoming hazards or telling people which street is one way or not, but do we really need signs saying..... "buckle up"... "it's snowing, slow down". I'm surprised the government hasn't mandated caution warnings on toilets "don't forget to flush".

I remember being in a wedding party and the priest asked the couple to choose the opening song for walking down the aisle. Naturally "Here comes the bride" was suggested, something that has been used in many weddings I've attended. Priest said that song is no longer permitted. Apparently it was used in pagan rituals essentially mocking the wedding idea, something like that (I don't remember). News to me! Somehow I guess people adapted it to weddings but now you never hear it being used.
It is the "Bridal Chorus" from Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin. It became associated with weddings in English speaking countries when Victoria the Princess Royal used it when she married the Heir to the Prussian Throne Frederick William in 1858.

The general religious attitude towards it these days is that it is a secular piece of music, and that its over use in films and television make it associated with sentimentality rather than worship. Also many church organists just plain feel it is way overused and there is much better music out there.

Most fairy tales are far darker and bloodier in the unexpurgated version. However, psychologists and psychiatrists say that the expurgation in fact removes a good bit of the value for children.

You may be correct. Just relaying what the priest said.

I'm laughing at your examples but sadly, some of these things are needed. Face it, if you've been driving in Canada for about two years, rain/snow/sleet/frozen rain/etc. is not a shock. Yet that stuff comes down and there's a ton of accidents. 99% of people don't need these warnings but 1% do. I even have seen enough unflushed toilets to think a little note is required. Note how many places have sensors to automate flushing. Some people don't do it.

But when it comes to this, I agree with you. It's the 0.001% who find fault with everything. They'll say kids shouldn't read books because paper cuts may occur. They are the ones who promote organic food, no unsafe play, etc. And don't get me wrong, I think organic food is healthy. But it's one thing for me and my family to enjoy it. It's another thing to crusade and press my views on others.

If this lady has a problem with Sleeping Beauty, don't throw out the fairy tale. Either append it to make a small footnote that she was asleep awaiting a kiss from the prince so she knew and consented. OR, teach your own kid that what happened is not necessarily something to emulate.

LOL. On one hand, I'd be amazed if a book warning like this popped up. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised!

It's amazing how things gets changed treating everyone like they have an IQ of 20.

The person who wrote this should read Ann Rice's version of Sleeping Beauty.

I'd pay good money to see that.

What about Hansel and Gretl? Or Ring around the Rosy? And don't forget Santa - in many stand your ground states - the fat guy would be shot for creeping around houses.

Anyway, I think the OP is obsessed with stuff going back to his childhood. That may be the reason for his penis image problems.

He doesn't just creep around houses - he enters them! He carries around gifts for kids, kisses mothers under the mistletoe, steals cookies and milk which aren't necessarily for him, and employs elves in some slave labor factory.

If any guy went around dressed in their bathrobe with gifts for children they'd be arrested, convicted and added to the sex offender's list. Plus he's insulting to women by constantly saying "Ho Ho Ho"

The male character in the novel kisses the female character without her consent, and that is assault.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury ... It was mouth to mouth resuscitation in order to save her life ! This man is a hero !

As for the next activities of the following hour of the princess's groggy state - it was fortunate that the prince was also a gynecologist and able to perform a thorough physical examination with the tools he had at the time.

Defense rests.
