If you want to deal in pure logic, the PM is by default a high earner with an aggregate income of over 300k (and add his trust fund to the mix).

He is not getting a child care tax benefit. He as our head of government is getting an employment benefit that is a reasonable and necessary expense given the job.

Not every high earner needs to be available 24/7. I don't need to be, I can go on vacation, turn my phone off after work. A prime minister can't.

Don't be an idiot, trying to argue that these are even remotely the same thing just paints YOU as a desperate hack who will say any ludicrous thing in order to slur politicians you oppose.

Isn't it amazing how careful they are about "optics" up until getting elected. Once in power, they let it all hang out.

You'd think Trudeau would be more savvy. At the end if the day, politicians like him know that the electorate has the attention span and memory of a gerbil, and that there is no accountability. Politics is a free-for-all for the elite class.

Agreed he should get a nanny as they do not have time to raise their children. Making the taxpayers shell out for it is simply more feeding at the trough.

I have no problem as a taxpayer picking up the nanny tab for the Trudeau's when both are away from home officially representing Canada. But I don't think it's fair if we are stuck with the entire nanny bill for 24/7/365 care.

Yes, this is the man who stood up in the House of Commons and spoke against wealthy families receiving government assistance for childcare.

He claimed that Harper was giving cheques to millionaires with the Universal Child Care Benefit and ran an “Occupy Wall Street” campaign, denouncing the wealthy in every imaginable way.

Trudeau liked to claim he would be different and even said he’d set an example by giving his UCCB to charity because he didn’t need it. He said people like him and his wife could pay for their own childcare.

We agree. You don’t need it.

So why are we paying for your nannies now that you’re Prime Minister?

The PM needs to be able to be away from home at a moment's notice. That's the job. Natural disasters, major incidents, etc, don't send the PM an outlook calendar invite a week in advance so he can arrange for a nanny.

Harper had a nanny the entire time yet you didn't express any outrage, and note Trudeau never questioned the need for Harper to have a nanny. What he questioned was totally different, a tax policy, not whether specific employers should offer such benefits where the job demands 24/7 availability for travel.

He is essentially the CEO of Canada with all the perks AND responsibilities that come with it. I am positive that his total compensation (salary, benefits, pension and eventual golden handshake) are well below CEOs in other similar sized private corporations with the similar levels of public scrutiny/private life invasion, for example the Banks.

Also remember, these staff members have access to hear and see sensitive information and need to be trusted and security cleared. The needs of this role are different than a normal rich Canadian.
