Canada should not stop oil exports but on areas that are very critcal to the USA which they cannot replace, we should add a 25% export tax on top of their 25% tariff. Like oil and electricity for instance. They may use less Canadian oil but they can only replace our heavy oil with Russian or Venezuelan oil, or they can spend bilions to reconfigure their refinaries in 2-3 years and spend billions on additional generating capacity.

Yeah, I guess they could switch to refining light oil from fracking but that would be a long term thing. The last time Trump was in office his tariffs threats got us to pay a bit more into NATO but I think our payments are still far too low.

You cannot get much diesel from refining light crude, the economy runs on diesel. For now at least. They can blend Mazut into light crude to produce more diesel, but Mazut comes from Ruzzia. They can also beg Maduro for heavy oil. Last time they cut Russian Mazut and Vacumgasoil, Biden had to go and blow Maduro.
