on your girlfriend
I am in the same boat as well. P2P has been running shitty, thought it was just me. If they lose the Usenet as was mentioned earlier, I am gone. I subscribe to many newsgroups and need the info contained within. Now I am pissed.

Use Rogers, Use 360share, no problems.

Computer crashed last week, lost one of my back-ups on CD, it had photoshop on, vital to my business. Went on 360share, downloaded it, new verison and the newest verison of Illustrator in about 1 hour.

While I have had some very minor problems with Rogers, and although many bitch that Ted is trying to be a monoply, I think Rogers is great and 20 thousands times better then Bell. I use Rogers for phone service, {used to be Sprint}, cable, my ISP, and cell phone. Gotta love the one bill too.

Vital to your business but yet u download rather then paying the license fee.... A) you download a newer version and u admit to downloading Illustrator. Do your clients teal your work from you. Do you tell your clients?
You know Adobe has a snitch line for piracy and it taken very seriously. You have your url in your sig and all it takes is whois and all your registration info is there.

I use eMule a lot for file sharing, mostly video files that I've made from VHS tapes. For about five weeks, I couldn't stay connected to any one server for longer than a couple of minutes, and I could only upload to about 3 or 4 kbs, even though I had the upload setting at 50 kbs, and I can easily upload much faster than that, under ordinary circumstances. Starting about 10:30 Thursday night, everything was back to normal. I'm not sure if something changed at Rogers, or if eMule fixed a problem.

I spoke to 'Neil' in the office of the president at Rogers last week. He confirmed that Rogers has had "traffic shaping" in place since late October, 2005, whereby certain Internet applications such as e-mail and browser use take precedent on the bandwidth, and other apps, like p2p file sharing, are of lower priority. He would not provide any details in writing, nor would he provide an e-mail address for anyone who would. He continually used the EULA as justification, (ie: Rogers may change the services provided at any time). He also confirmed that no public notice had been made on either the billing statements, or on the Rogers website.

A likely reason for this policy change is greed. By most estimates, 60% or more of high speed broadband Internet bandwidth is used for p2p file sharing. By restricting the bandwidth use of their existing customers, Rogers can add a lot of new customers, without having to upgrade their technology, or the total amount of bandwidth running through their cables.

I'm reminded of the pizzeria where the large and extra large pizzas are the same size, but one is cut into eight pieces, and the other cut in twelve. The pizzeria explains the price difference solely based on the number of slices, not the size of the slices.

You are 100% correct. I was getting terrible speeds for the last 2 months or so. I was going crazy with the sloooowwww speeds. Someone on a torrent forum suggested to change the port to 1720. I am up from 2kB/s to over 300.

LOL! thanks thats a good one!!!!! :D

They blocked port 25 a few months ago. It's the SMTP port. I didn't know what was going on at first as I use a company server to send mail. Rogers didn't even tell me. My tech set me up on a special SMTP port and all is well.

About 3 weeks ago I was having a horrible time with my upload speed with Rogers. I could download at the 6 Meg rate but upload was so slow it was about 56k and just crawling..... After 2 days I called Rogers and they told me it must be my Router causing the problem and to remove it. I told her I'm not removing it for her to test my connection. I had another older router so I swapped the new router with it and sure enough the problem was still there. Rogers was at fault. It was getting late so I went to bed. The next day I found that the problem had mysteriously disappeared. Now I'm reading this I think I know what was really going on!

i wonder if you guys can sue for that. is there anywhere in the EULA you guys signed that says rogers can limit your download speeds by blocking all those ports? And did they ever send you an email which told you that they would be blocking ports on you guys? Also did they rogers tech support guys ever give you a direct response or did they just give u the run around?

given the run around for a couple of months...they finally admitted it in october or something....and apparently according to the EULA they have the right to change terms of service without notification

for all those bell dsl users out there, Bell is having a free promo where they give you Bell Ultra (i think it's 5mb/s) for the same price as regular DSL for 6 months. After that it's back up to 55 or something like that. So i'd call ahead and ask for the upgrade if i were you.

They (in thier infinite wisdom) have also sent me an e-mail saying that all access to usenet newsgroups will stop on Dec 15 and if I want usenet I've got to pay someone else like giganews. then they try to spin it like they are improving things as I can use these other applications
......................... "Once again, thank you for your loyalty to Rogers and your continued business." Pompous fuckers shouldn't be so sure they'll have my continued business, they don't seem to realize they don't have a monopoly on ISP's! My money just might end up in some competitors pocket.
TRY

3webXS High Speed

AS YOUR ISP.
High Speed 'Gold' Cable

3WEB Available in Ontario (Greater Toronto area and Ottawa)

Now you can double the speed of Rogers HS Express service at a much lower cost!
