any recommendations for a tablet , strictly for reading on trips, planes, long travel etc...
i have an inherent nostalgic soft spot for the physical book and have resisted the e readers till now.
but recognize the practicality of a single small electronic device for reading versus carrying around many and sometime heavy books.
was thinking of just going with the kindle fire, but heard about an issue of limited canadian availability of many books?
thanks all. appreciate the input.

Wait till July. Google will be releasing a 7" tablet for around $200-$250. Throw the kindle app on it and you're good to go.

Thanks. Sounds good. Going on a long trip in may and was hoping to have it then.
Well, if all you're going to do is read ebooks, go with the Amazon Kindle.

I'm pretty sure Staples is selling some of the older models at discounts.

Staples refers to it as "Kindle with Keyboard". Call around.

I agree with this, bought my SO a kindle a couple of years ago and you'd never get her to give it up. If you want to read magazines or anything where a color screen is important you could consider a Amazon Fire.

I have a kindle and a sony ereader. I like the kindle but the sony is so small and light that it's my go to. Got it as a gift right after I got my kindle so I've never really used it. Actually, it's for sale if you are interested! It's just collecting dust, I've got the original box, receipt etc.

I have one of the Kobo touch versions that used to be around 150 but likely cheaper now. I' m on my third reader as I stepped on ad dropped the first 2 so I like the cheap price point. The kobo is light, easy to Turn the pages and extra long battery life which is good for trips. It uses the ePub book format which is fairly universal. The best thing to get, regardless of reader is the freeware app called Calibre. Search online for it. It will convert any drm free book file to the format of your reader and help you load the book onto it. It is a huge boon to picking up books from various locations online.

I was a die hard physical book fan before I got my first reader. Now I would never go back. The ability to carry a ton of books on one small device is great for trips.

I have a Sony E reader and am very happy with it. The Sony will handle any ebook in the epub format. That is a very popular format that is used by many ebooks including the Kobo. I recently took the Sony on a trip and it was invaluable. Many books in one small and light package.
