no, he's merely pointing out that it seems like almost everyone feels that regardless of whatever they've done wrong there should be some way or excuse that will allow them to avoid the consequences.

You seem to be confusing criminal and civil law.
The law is the law whether it be civil or criminal.

Ok, here's a better analogy: you "meant" to put a twonie into the meter but only put a loonie so your time expired before you thought it did. A simple mistake right? So should that excuse someone from getting a parking ticket for having not paid the correct amount?

Honest your honor, I didn't see the no left turn sign
Honest your honor, I didn't see the no right turn on red sign
Honest your honor, I didn't know that was a handicapped spot
Honest your honor, I didn't see the speed limit sign

I tell you what, next time you want to park downtown, give ME the money. Then when you get a ticket you can say to the judge: BUT I GAVE THE MONEY TO TBOY!!!!!

What's with all the "fight it" advice? Have we stooped so low that when we make a mistake we expect someone else to pay for it?

The op parked on someone's lot and didn't pay for it. It is CUT and DRIED. Even if he paid someone else for the priviledge that doesn't make it right or legal.

How about taking some responsibility for our actions instead of making excuses?
I disagree that the issue is as 'cut and dried' as you describe with your various analogies... When you have separate and unattended adjoining lots with no clear lines of separation and an 'Attendant's hut' in the middle of them, surely there is some RESPONSIBILITY on the owner's part to clearly indicate which ticket machine belongs to which lot!! This should be displayed at the machine to avoid this confusion!
This episode has got absolutely NOTHING to do with avoiding responsibility for one's actions! i am quite prepared to pay the proper amount to the rightful owner for the time parked. However, I consider the excessive charge by 'Imperial' and their threatening language on their notice to be totally insulting under the circumstances.

I guess you've never heard of the saying "a good fence makes for good neighbours"? In a situation like this it could be very well "we need a demarcation point, split the cost" and the other says no.

I bet if you go back and examine the meters it probably says somewhere the name of the lot the machine is applicable to. I bet if you go to the other it says something similar. The kiosk in the middle doesn't mean a thing.

For the record, I can see how one could be confused, but the bottom line is the OP made a mistake and paid for parking to the wrong company. That's it in a nutshell.....

Sorry to disagree, but there were 2 statements in your original post which indicated you were looking for avoiding your responsibility:

Are there any Terbites who may be familiar with the actions of ‘Imperial’ or who may have had similar experiences? Is their ‘Notice’ (which is numbered and shaped like a parking ticket) legally enforceable?

Why? As far as they can see you parked in their lot and didn't pay. I sincerely doubt they looked any further on the slip on your dash once they saw that the name of the lot wasn't theirs.

Have you contacted them to see what resolution can be made yet?
