Sweep hooks john -- twice
By ANDREW SEYMOUR, Ottawa Sun
Talk about being unlucky in love. A john, who just couldn't resist cruising for hookers, was busted by undercover cops twice in 45 minutes during a prostitution sweep last week.
"He went to Hintonburg first and then he went to Montreal Rd.," Ottawa police Sgt. Jean Lamothe said yesterday. "There happened to be a unit over there running a project and he got caught again."
Lamothe said the 40-year-old had initially qualified for john school, but any hope of attending the diversion program faded with his second arrest less than an hour later.
Instead he was criminally charged with communicating for the purpose of prostitution.
Lamothe said the man was one of 19 people charged during the three-day sweep that targeted five of Ottawa's prostitution areas.
In total, seven women and 12 men were charged with communicating for the purpose of prostitution and 20 others qualified for john school.
The sweep also resulted in drug charges for two men.
According to Lamothe, several officers were refueling their vehicle when they observed a drug deal. Both men were charged with possession of cocaine.
