She showed them. I love how everyone was laughing at her before the song. They ain't laughing anymore. Brilliant!

Anyone know who the hottie is on the judges panel?

Good for Susan...and she's so unassuming too. I love people like that who do what they do without attitude.

It's a beautiful song. Here are other versions sung by lesser talents. Not as moving, but still nice. Susan's performanc being an A+, these are Bs.

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
And they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.

Little Voice

This brilliant musical moment reminded me completely of a gem of a film called: "Little Voice". It was about a young girl from a small English Village who could barely speak but when she got a microphone, watch out!!!

It starred Michael Caine, Ewan McGregor, Brenda Blethyn and an unknown, Jane Horrocks. I am going out to rent it again in tribute to this singer's talent.

In some ways, the film and this moment have come full circle.

Highly recommended! Please search it out!!

I think you are being delusional there. Susan is ok, and certainly sympathetic, but for me she does not nail it. She falls short of the emotional weight at the end... she should just rip this thing when the crescendo hits... and she has way too much vibrato. To say Ruthie Henshall (a great Fantine) is a "B" compared to Susan is ridiculous...

Ruthie's is the better of the two I posted. The other one put me to sleep (although she's cute as hell.)

However, I stand by my opinion that Susan's voice sounds better.

Hearing her sing reminded me of the proverb,

"Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.

A caterpillar with a butterfly voice!!!!

Makes me think twice about judging another human by their 'packaging'!

Everyone has a hidden gem inside!!

I agree. Initially I thought she was good but as she progressed, I realized the standing ovation at the beginning influenced my earlier opinion. Susan is better than most amateurs but she'd need a lot more training before I can consider her decent. This version is a more classical rendition:

The heartbreak in her voice from 3.19...simply cannot find the words to describe it.
