This has zero to do with anything SP related, so feel free to ignore it.

I've spent the last few days sorting out stories related to the import trade of puppies across North America from European import brokers. Easing of import restrictions have given rise to a multi million dollar industry devoted to importing poorly bred, sickly puppies from mills in Eastern Europe. They're the new puppy mills, and they're making a mint off of the North American insistence on getting what they want, when they want it, and at a cheap price.
By placing ads in the papers and on the internet which appear to be from local breeders, North American brokers are selling buyers mass purchased puppies which are shipped across the world at a disgustingly young age. These pups are yanked from their mothers, crammed into a crate, and stuck on planes with the barest minimum of basic care. Many arrive dead, and the ones who survive are often gravely ill and infested with parasites.
People expecting happy, healthy new pets are instead getting sickly pups which often require thousands of dollars in veterinary care, and which often don't survive.
If you're thinking of buying a dog, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Check to make sure that the pup you are buying was bred by a reputable breeder, and not imported by a broker.
Brokers are rarely able to give detailed histories on the puppy's parentage, instead vaguely referring to 'champion lines'. They usually offer only import pedigrees, from Eastern European nations - if at all. They almost NEVER offer to let you come and see their kennel facilities. If in doubt, ask point blank if the puppies are being imported. With current media scrutiny, less and less are willing to outright lie about this.

That's it. I'm just too heartsick and pissed off not to rant about this a little. Feel free to now return to discussing BJs.
