LucasFilm has released the original 3 Star Wars films on DVD for the first time. Apparently there are a few added shots again to make the story more consistent with the first 3 episodes. I think there's also a 4th DVD with a bunch of extras on them.

So what do you guys think? Will they sell the original 3 episodes now and the first 3 later on? Or will the boxed set of all 6 DVDs come out in a few years?

I cant see why there wouldnt be a 6 DVD box set...speaking of which, anyone know if there are plans for LOTR and/or Matrix box sets? Not that I'd buy it because I own all of them, but maybe I would I dont know, haha...I hate when older movies get re-released and you have the original one, ie Goodfellas.

I think for sure there will be a 6 episode set in the future someday. They will just throw in some different bonus footage and wait for the money to come in. I can't blame them either i would milk it as long as i could too.

I was at Best Buy yesterday for something else at opening and they had a pretty good rush of people there to pick up the set, $54.99. I picked one up myself but then, after a few minutes, decided to put it back. I can live without it (I've got the VHS and haven't watched those in a couple of years) and I also didn't know if it could be had for a better price.

I haven't bought LOTR Return of the King yet as I'm waiting for the extended version. Maybe it will be out for Xmas.

re:star wars trilogy dvd box set

K my bet there will be a 6 ep. box set. Also, they maybe even a 3 with the prequels. There is not telling what uncle george is going to do. So u can wait until there is a 6 ep. dvd box set. Or be like me *grins* I have everybox set with the exception of one. It depends how big a fan u are. For me, im a huge star wars fan. I still have the original action figures from when i was a kid. In addition I have the newer versions that r still in the pack. Also I got the ships, posters, books, comics etc. I've practically counting down this day since last year. LOL..... I was the first one to buy it at the store yesterday along with the star wars battlefront game for playstation2. So if ur not a hardcore fan wait for a few yrs for the 6 episode box set. Or do what I do just got crazy and live for the moment now. Oh and by the way only 240 days until STAR WARS EPISODE 3: Revenge of the Sith!

I won't be buying these new DVD's. (my little protest) I hate the new digital effects he adds. It changes everything and isn't how I remember it as a kid. I was perfectly happy with the puppet singer in Jedi, I didn't need a digital dude with a beard joining in.

I own the 1995 versions on VHS un-altered and UN-opened so I'll hold on to those for awhile.

Star Wars Trilogy on DVD ... Finally !!!

There will be a boxed set of all the 6 movies (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) in the future for sure. Van Ling, producer of all the Star Wars DVDs has hinted about a possible 2007 (30th anniversary) DVD release.

Being a fan of Star Wars, I had to buy the DVD set yesterday. The picture quality and the sound are exceptional .... it's Star Wars like you've never heard or seen before. The fourth disc is jam-packed with extra's !!! But for a Star Wars fan, that will not be enough. Can you believe Kurt Russell auditioned for the role of Han Solo ? It would have been a very different trilogy with him.

I would have been more pleased if they gave us the "True Classic's" together with the "Special Edition's". There are quite a few changes to all the 3 movies, a few major and several minor ones. We can bash George Lucas as much as we want, but in the end, these are his movies and he can do whatever he wants with them.

The following are the changes made to the 3 movies:
(WARNING: **SPOILER'S**)

Episode IV: A New Hope

- Lots of matte lines removed. The space under Luke's speeder looks much more realistic.
- R2D2's blue parts are much cleaner and more consistent.
- The 1997 animation added to the entrance to Mos Eisley is much smoother.
- Greedo and Han shoot at the same time, and Han's dodge is far more realistic.
- Jabba has been retexturized and looks considerably better. Han still walks on his tail, but it's much smoother.
- The lettering on various Death Star panels are written in Aurebesh rather than English.
- The matte-painted hall in Leia's detention block looks much more realistic.
- Lightsabers look much better. Colors are far brighter and the blades are more defined.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

- Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor instead of that near-fossil they had.
- The conversations between Vader and Palpatine has a few new lines. Palpatine knows that Luke is Vader's son.
- Light sabers are again fixed, making them more consistent.
- Temuera Morrison does the voice of Boba Fett
- Luke's inane scream when he jumps to escape Vader on Cloud City is gone. And there was much rejoicing.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

- Like the other two, the light sabers are fixed.
- The Rancor looks considerably better, with its matte lines removed.
- When Vader's helmet is removed, his eyebrows are gone and his eyes are recolored to match Hayden's.
- Celebrations on Naboo, Coruscant and one other planet, where a statue is toppled right before we see the celebration with the ewoks.
- Hayden Christensen replaces Sebastian Shaw as Anakin's ghost. Lucas explains this in the commentary, which is spoilerish for Episode III.

I just got the set today. I already have Episodes 1 & 2 on DVD, so waiting for the 6 disc set is futile. I watched a lot of the bonus stuff, and if you think Kurt Russell as Han Solo was funny...How about Cindy (Shirley) Williams as Princess Leia....hehe

Lucas originally believed that Star Wars would be 9 episodes. The first 3 episodes would be story of Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker. The next 3 would tell the story of his son Luke. And the final 3 would tell the story of Luke's child / children.

George Lucas has since come out to say that there will only be the 6 episodes. The rest of the Star Wars books will live on in books, comics etc. i.e. No more movies.
