So I’m still trying to watch this.
Admittedly it does get better after a couple seasons.
But am still depressed at how old everyone is.
One question though, but why does Data appear older too?

They couldn't stop Brent Spiner from aging.

He doesn't appear as Data, just the doctor that created him.
I am not a ST fan.

Data always wanted to be human. Since aging is part of being human, Data needs to experience that too.
And as jcpro said, Brent Spiner is older too.
Heck, I'm only depressed knowing how much money they make per episode and not being able to get any of it.

You can skp Picard seasons 1 and 2 and go straight to 3. The seasons are not connected in any meaningful way (so far) so you won't be missing any details. The plot, characters and SFX are much improved.

Spoiler Alert: the whole TNG cast is back for season 3 and it's been great so far. There's a lot of callbacks and easter eggs to the TNG show and movies, which are handled quite well.

Of course Brent Spiner looks older. We saw that progression during the show and movies. Data appears in season 1, but he looks terrible. The makeup or digital de-aging is bad and his eyes and hair are quite different from the show and movies.

Season 2 is a decent watch because they brought back John De Lancie as Q who is amazing and Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan. I think they did a good job with their characters and didn't over-use them.

Because Brent Spiner still wanted to get paid and not be replaced by a younger CGI clone like Leia and Luke did?

The original Data sacrificed himself in ST: Nemesis. Before he did this, he downloaded his entire consciousness onto another one of his creator's android, B-4.

The older "Data" was built to house the consciousness of the creator before he died, and was made to look like Soong in his older years.

The article explains it more precisely.

I'm loving this third season. It doesn't feel like the Star Trek The Next Generation, but it does feel like the Next Gen movies.

One of the things that kind of annoyed me about S1 and S2 is that they sort of ignored the fact that everyone (especially Patrick Stewart) is old, and it kinda weakened my suspension of disbelief. This season, he's an old man playing an old man. It's working for me.

The visuals are amazing, and the score is really good too. It's paying so much honour to Jerry Goldsmith in particular. For the first time in ages, I'm watching a show that I'm so eager for the next week's ep, that I'm rewatching the previous episodes. The scene at the museum I've watched and re-watched over and over. It's truly fantastic.

Spoiler Alert:

PStew is playing an old man in a synth body for season 2 and 3. I thought that plot point was stupid in season 1 and added nothing to his character at all.

Huge amount of fan service and Easter eggs in the last episode, but it's done very well.

I'm excited to see what Geordi is hiding in hanger bay 12. My bet is the Enterprise D because it's not networked like the new ships. Could be the E too.
