In Star Trek TOS they never time traveled by choice. There is also the Temporal paradox.
I refer you to the last episode in Season Two..."Assignment: Earth". The Enterprise purposefully travelled back to the year 1968 to investigate issues happening in that period of Earth's history. Granted it was an attempt to launch a spinoff series starring Teri Garr and Robert Lansing

I get around.
Ok thx for the correction but Star Trek still believes, and even participates in, time travel.

That is what they got wrong

Time travel makes no sense
Your hypothesis is still wrong. To quote Arthur C Clarke:
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
Teleportation, FTL transportation and time travel technologies exist and make sense in the world (multiverse) of Star Trek. As does fluidic space, subspace, the Q Continuum, a mirror universe, various quantum realities and alternate timelines.

....
Higher dimensions are science fiction where we can travel into and observe, but not change as Star trek claims, all of time
Higher dimensions are not science fiction and are widely accepted as fact by the greats of past and present including Einstein and help explain our existence scientifically. http://youtu.be/eN24Sv0qS1w To say they are make belief is like saying that the earth is the center of the universe and all the stars and suns revolve around the earth. Yes the scifi part is going into them or accessing them and interacting with the other 4 at will. If we can access them somehow, i.e. when we cease to exist in the physical and transform to pure energy, and obtain the freedom to look down at ourselves at will say now as we write this, maybe we can send signals maybe we can't thus is where the spiritual and scientific diverge...but do they have to diverge and why can't they coexist, the pure un-mudded by humans or by religion spiritual and the actual scientific, I don't think we are capable of trully understanding this part, yet.

Yes star trek gets many things wrong but it's so fucking cool nevertheless!

Theoretically, time travel is supported by Einstein's theories of Relativity. For example, travelling through a wormhole causes you to also travel through time:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole

Of course, wormholes are theorethical and have not been shown to exist, but they are predicted by Einstein's Theory of General Relativity, just like black holes were also predicted. Time travel might also be possible if we live in a multi-verse, which is supported by modern Quantum Theory. When you go back in time, you travel back to a different universe within the same multi-verse:

The past has already occurred so its record is in the universe in the form of light waves

but if travelling to the future is possible that means everything is preordained and we have no free will, also, everything, everywhere that will ever happen has already happened

No way

Theoretically, you can travel faster then the speed of light through warp drive. They already have the solution, even optimized recently to make it more efficient. They just need to find a source of energy to power it, like dark matter, maybe the hadron helps with this one. This does not mean you went back into the past if you travel faster then the speed of light. Only question I have with warp drive is how do they prevent hitting space debris doing this, unless the warp bubble travels with you and causes everything else to move out of the way when moving through the fabric of space.

The only way you as human can go into the future is by taking yourself out of the equation and say finding a nice black hole to orbit like the one in our milky way with your warp drive ship. This way you will see your kids all grown up or the earth change quickly relative to your own time. We may be interested in doing this if the earth undergoes a natural dissaster.

When you become energy, well thats another point of discussion and may be possible to do this, but then you may exist and function totally different from your human counterpart. Maybe energy = spiritual being, and you become part of the energy system that exists all throughout the universe and maybe become one with God.

My point is, if you can travel to the future then this means the future has already occurred and all moments of time exist simultaneously and everything must be preordained unless there are an infinity of futures ..... this is possible, indeed a condition of , an infinite universe

my favorite star trek episode in the one where the asshole posts comments on a public internet forum in giant bold lettering and annoys the fuck out of every member on the forum. He eventually gets his balls cut off and eaten by the tribbles.
and he does it in green

No. When you approach the speed of light, time moves much slower. If you were to travel to the Andromeda Galaxy and back to Earth at the speed of light, everyone you knew is dead, and time on Earth would have elapsed much quicker, hence the future.

Yes

Then how do you travel into the future????? which is what we are discussing , I think

If I may add to what you just said, I believe Professor Michio Kaku explained that it is Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity that accounts for time travel, or perhaps more accurately, "events that occur at the same time for one observer could occur at different times for another".

You don't travel INTO the future. You slow time down relative to your surroundings. Sort of like the future travelling past you.

Star Trek didn't get it wrong, you did. The Temporal Prime Directive is against altering history and changing the timeline. Also forbids speaking of future events in such as way that contemporary people would try to change what is going to happen.
Excellent MattRoxx.

BTW, there's a tribute to Leonard Nimoy on the Space channel - all day Star Trek. Saw one old episode last night. Great stuff to see. It was the Enterprise crossing the Neutral Zone to attack a Romulan vessel that first broke the treaty by destroying Federation outposts.

I miss the Vulcan a lot :(
Einstein explained time relativity in a simple way.

When a guy is with an attractive women, time seems to stop (but it doesn't). Kind of like time flies when you're having fun. It must be like that with you, no?

You can only alter your OWN time by speeding it up or aging quicker or slowing it down in the 4 dimensions known to man kind. Once you get to the 5th dimension you are able to go to any point in your space time or through the 4th dimension by being in the 5th. Question is how do you get to the 5th dimension...some say through death...nobody really knows.

Some say that UFOs could be from another dimension.
