Very well, Sabres goalie Miller was chased by the big bad Flyers and the offensively and defensively depleted Sabres just could not hold on to the onslaught of the bigger, better, and deeper Flyers. Sabres go golfing and Flyers continue playing hockey. One thing about Miller, the good doc always has lingering doubts about him being a great goalie. He is no Dominque Hasek for sure. This series actually reflects Miller's season well. Games 1 and 4 represent Miller the world class goalie who single-handedly stoned the offensively talented Flyers. He was average in the other games in the series. Which Miller will show up in game 7 may very well determines which team win the series. If the Sabres do not have so many injuries in the series, the good doc's heart and intellect vote for the Sabres to win game 7. For now, the heart is for the Sabres but the intellect says the Flyer has the edge. The previous 6 games could have gone either way. Come game 7, if the Sabres lay their entire effort on the ice, play a focused, disciplined game with heart, true grit, and passion, they should pull out another win, especially when Miller can perform like a world class goalie he thinks he is. May Pegula magic and the force be with the Sabres.
The young Sabres made costly mistakes and not exercising the killer instincts in game six when they had the Flyers under siege comes back to haunt them big time and end their playoff life. Very costly lesson to be learned here: Seize the opportunity when you have it. NHL hockey is an extremely physical sport. The Sabres need a different model than what they have. Other than speed and skills, their off-season moves need to add size and power to the roster. Owner Pegula wants a Stanley Cup within three years, by 2013. It should be achievable if he does not allow that conservative and small-minded GM Regier to mess up. When does Regier learn??? The blame now is that the former owners Golisano and Quinn handcuffed Regier. He is given new life via Pegula’s benefit of the doubt approach. Get rid of the dead weights and incompetent players and retool the team with a better model. The good doc thinks if Regier bungles in one year, kick his ass to the curb and replace him with some real talent as GM or 3 years to win a Cup will be another lost cause.
So far only one prediction goes astray due to circumstances beyond the good doc’s control. (That being the Sabres players were dropping like flies. ) No bad so far!!! LOL!!!
