Skunks definitely love eating grubs and they're likely the problem. They leave a mess behind them of turned over lawn (espcially in the dry patchy spots where grubs usually are)

Squirrels do dig in the lawn but they are like good golfers and replace their divets. What they usually do is hide nuts under the turf until spring. You can actually watch them in the spring find exactly where they hid their nuts and dig them up. But, they replace their divets or else it wouldn't be hiding anything.

Don't know of any recipes for puppies or kittens, however kittens do make for good muskie bait, and there are lots of good recipes for muskie.
