Squirrels in the roof

I think that I have a family of squirrels under the roof. They have entered by managing to rip up a short segment of the aluminum flashing below the roof. Any suggestion as to which is the best pest exterminator to contact in the Oshawa-Bowanville area?

you can do it your self.. not to hard.. just get if you can to the a entrance toss in some rat poison in the chunksget the flavored kind.. seal up the hole and they will eat it once hinger sets in.. then you will no longer have the problem.. and extermanator will do just that.. no different.. he wont tell you what he did because no one wants to know about it.. if they are in the roof there is no way of getting them out unless you are ready to rip onen half you roof...

And once the smell of dead, rotting squirrel no longer permeates your house from the air drawn from the attic, you'll be a happy camper.

Or you can hire the type of expert that makes sure there is only one entrance/exit and uses a gate trap to get the squirrel as it exits then either moves or euathanizes it/them.

I had this problem. Got rid of them myself. They were getting in through a side roof vent screen that had a hole chewed in it. A neighbor saw them coming and going. I just got a stronger type of chicken wire mesh and repaired the damaged one after we scared them out of the house by banging on the upper ceiling wall where they were nesting. They returned but couldn't get in, then gave up and moved on.

Didn't want to poison them because the smell would be pretty bad as they rotted.

The squirrels in this area here are quite nervy and will even walk right up to my dog and he is huge. They get right close and the dog will even try to lunge at them. Then they just turn and walk away, not even run away, but walk. It is like they know how far his leash will go or know I will not let him go after them.

I hope you can get rid of them nicely as they do not know they have intruded on your territory and just want a home too.

Cat vs. squirrel and if it is a nervy squirrel and a whimpy cat? Maybe 6 cats. I dunno I just see the squirrels in this area as cute but nervy little brats. Has anyone ever witnessed a territorial fight between one cat and a sassy squirrel before to know for sure who would come out the winner. I would hope that the squirrel would think ok there is a cat in my home I will just move on now. But, would that always happen?

If they hate cats that much how about a recording of cat sounds?

try putting a cat in the attic if you have an access panel. This works.
Yes. So instead of one fully intact dead squirrel that dies of rat poison you now have a half-eatern squirrel that dies from Fluffy the Attack Cat. Good thinking Einstein, just in time for summer when the attic gets to be 45'C. I just love the smell of rotting squirrel in the morning....

Better yet, Fluffy attacks Rocky, has herself a little feast and then brings the leftovers back as a present for you. Check your slippers in the morning.

Get a professional unless you know exactly where they are going in and out. If they pulled up one piece of flashing they will do it again.

I've had squirrels a couple of times. Squirrels leave in the morning and return just before dusk. I've tried installing a one way flap but they need to see daylight or else they'll chew through the soffit or eaves trying to escape. The method I used was to form a cone with chicken wire and attach it to the opening. The cone should be about 8 inches long, so they can leave but can't return. Once you're sure they're gone, cover the whole permanently.

Have had both squirrels & racoons. They keep you awake at night, tear up your insulation and wiring, and are no fun to corner in the attic (experience). Get a professional.

Oh yeah, who says Fluffy doesn't get killed by the squirrel - didn't you ever watch Rocky & Bullwinkle?

AAA Wildlife is a sure bet. It will cost you but the job will be done right. You don't want dead things in your attic. The smell never goes away until you start to rip things out. If the roof is not too high you can watch for the buggers to leave BUT they may have little ones right now, another big problem. If you can go into your attic and be sure that there is nothing there you can repair their access hole.

All the luck in the world to you, bin there, hated every second of it!

We had raccoons once, what a mess & they are nasty & viscous if cornered.
I got rid of them using 1,4-dichlorobenzene (moth balls).
It will get rid of just about any varmit. (Snakes, raccoons, birds, Insurance salesmen etc)
I believe it is a suspected carcinogenic material , so use gloves & avoid breathing the odor.
Take 3 or 4 moth balls , rap them up in chunk of J-cloth & attach a length of fishing line or twine.
Toss a couple of these into the offending area with a length of line strung out so you can retrieve the moth balls after the offenders have departed.
It probably wont kill them, but they will not like it
Guaranteed or you get your varmits back

Thanks everyone for our suggestions. One thing is for sure, never kill it while it is in your attic or else it will stink out the place. Also not a good idea to close the access point while they still exist inside the attic. My buddy has a trap and luckily for me brought it over. We have trapped one squirrel so far. I just released the sucker miles away from here (in a conservation area). Cannot wait for this saga to end.

I have a similar problem, and I'm looking into getting a live trap for them. From what I understand they probably have a nest and young'uns up there right now. They should leave in a few weeks on their own. If they don't I'm going to trap them and then pick some forest somewhere.

I just have a mental picture of an eagle coming in and picking them up after I release them, like a Simpsons episode! :)

I hear that if you leave them too long then they could do considerable damage. Also, they could be likely to return once they leave on their own.

if someone says they have squirrels in their roof, does this mean they are nuts?
