He's only 5 points short of 1,000 I thought he may try to stick it out for another season. At the very least I hope that they bring him back in a coaching/personnel role.

Yes, his new job with the Leafs is some kind of advisor (to Dubas?). Maybe this means he is the heir apparent to Dubas' job?

not always sure...
What does a Special Assistant to Kyle Dubas actually do?
Lol. I had the same question.

I quit trying to figure out "who's on first" with the management team about 2018, when the bugles sounded, the bells rang out and the sky filled with white doves because Brandon Pridham - having spent four years as "Assistant to the General Manager" - was promoted with great fanfare to "Assistant General Manager".
Congrats were offered on that. (y)

So a special assistant to the general manager? What that looks like probably depends entirely on the personalities involved.

Apparently, Spezza will make $300,000 in his new job. A pay cut from the $750,000 he was making as a player.

Question: Why does Dubas need/want a special assistant?

Jason Spezza's contracts paid him close to $90 million USD over his career - so I think he can afford to eke out an existence at $300,000 per year.

No idea the answer to your question other than I guess Dubas feels Spezza can offer value to the Leaf's management team.

It's a make a job. Compensate him for the discounts he took as a player.
He can work remotely from his cottage.

As a Sens fan I will always remember the Alfie, Spezza, Heatly line.

They were just lethal.......Then a long came Curtis Joseph........Grrrrr, lol.

In closing though, as good as Spezza was I always felt like he had next level elite talent. But he never quite got to where he could have been.

He never put that puzzle together.

The answer is simple: Dubas can't think.
