Watched Ep 1... the CG blood splashing is way overdone - it is way over the top. Too "300"-ish IMHO. But, the story seems to be quite interesting on the melodramatic side and pretty entertaining. Beat watching 'reality TV' for sure...

My self I have been thoroughly enjoying this series. I admit that the it is at times a bit over done with the stylized violence and comic book like depictions of the fight scenes. But there is, I find, an enthusiasm by the players I find keeps me interested. It is pure fantasy material. I particularly enjoy the actor who plays Batiatus (John Hannah who played Inspector Rebus) and his tendency to gloat when he is winning. I can't wait for him to get his comeuppance, if he ever does.

Hopefully it is coming, especially if Spartacus found the truth about his wife.
And didn't Spartacus get the truth about who arranged for his wife's murder from the guy who was next to him in the sick quarters?

I'd sat Batiatus' days are numbered. Too bad though as I really like him as a bad guy.

I assume that we all know how the story ends. I just hope that there are still great sex scenes as he leads his rebelion.

Actually this is the biggest question mark for me about this show. I wonder where the second season will take it? Does Spartacus run Batiatus through with a sword, kill the wife and lead a bloody gladiators rebellion?

And as I see it the whole way in which Batiatus maneuvered Solonius into being blamed for the kidnapping & murder of the senator (or what ever he is, I forget his name) puts him in rather a good position for higher position in Rome as now he will be in the good books of the son. Which is exactly what he wants and to me suggests that he is not about to be dispatched. But Spartacus can not let him live for long knowing what he knows now.

Funny thing is when I started watching the show I thought it sort of trashy. But now it has become sort of a favorite. I guess Starz does some good productions because I felt exactly the same way about Crash, another Starz production.

And how can Erin Cummings come back....

What a cutie.

Spart's wife will be back via dream sequences like what happened last week. I often wondered how an actor felt when they found out they were getting killed off early in the series. Same with lost, the rocker (who's dating Evangline Lilly) was killed off last season yet he's back.

Though with Andy Whitfield's illness we may have to wait an extended time before season 2.

Yeah, erin's a cutie and whoa, some of her sex scenes...sheesh.........and buddy up there: 300, rome, mixed together but he left out the soft core porn......

Yeah but she is almost always covered in cuts & blood. I want her back whole, smooth skinned & naked like in the first episode.

Yeah I guess that is right. He is pretty integral to the show.

I loved Rome but 300 I did not get. As I mentioned above, the other Starz show, Crash, is excellent. Not least because of one of the female stars, Moran Atias an Israeli actress/model.

Andy Whitfield is apparently doing well in his rehab and treatment which takes 12-15 weeks for his type of lymphoma - the same as Mario Lemieux.
Season 2 is tentatively set to recommence filming in October (NZ summer) depending on Whitfield's health.
The other actors in the show have been given the next 6 months to pursue other endeavours so that's the earliest.
For example, Manu Bennett (Crixus) is currently filming in a big budget "Sinbad" right now.
Expect season 2 in the early summer of 2011.

Laugh out loud funny, but unfortunately not intentional! John Hannah chews the scenery like woodworm. Cheesy CG and Monty Python like blood letting and gore. T&A every 5 mins. Who could resist. I call it Spartacus: Swords and Sandals.

I agree with you on the cheesy CG and Monty Python Like blood letting and Gore.

I wish they would just do without that. The story and characters can stand on it's own.
