Is this a new thing coming in now? I received a txt today, not that much different from your avg email spam advertising a dating site or something.
'i got your # from a friend, but bet you cant guess who. If you want to see if you know me check me out at ------.'
You dont even see a callback # with this txt. I'm getting charged for opening spam txts now WTF?
How is this happening, where they getting my #?

I can't even reply, as it doesnt show a #. Which is the weird part. I'm think the cell phone companies must be giving out information? I heard about something like this a few years back when my friend read a contract agreement or something.

My message was regarding a site named date-magik. What did you guys get?

They're probably sending the messages from the Internet. I doubt any company offers number blocking for SMS.

These are SMS, right? As opposed to IM?

umm whats the difference? They just look like a regular txt message to me.
I'm more interested in how they got my #.
I dont really understand the point thought. So they spam msg ppl to tell them to look up a certain user on a certain dating site (in my case)?

IMs are sent over the Internet and are considered data, whereas SMS is a discrete service handled by your provider. If I were going to spam cellphones on a massive scale, I'd probably use IM and hijacked computers.
