I don't understand why people keep on saying the price will go down. Can you back up your statement? Sony has NEVER lowered the price of a new console in a year, or so. From a historical stand point you have nothing, unless you have insider info of Sony's plans stop misleading people, or state clearly that you hope the price goes down in a year.Cobster said:

He did say however, since Sony is really going to be making more money on the games.
There is talk of a price drop on the units, to focus more on games/dvds.

All game systems are generally not profitable, with manufacturing costs, etc. The games and accessories is how they profit; however, Sony is already losing about US $300 dollars on each PS3 sold, how much can they afford to lose per system? Furthermore, their finances haven't been the best lately with the battery recalls, etc.
A big part of the PS3's cost is the BD drive, estimated $200-300, compared to e.g. the XBox 360's DVD drive which costs $20.
There was a time not so long ago when DVD ROM drives cost >$500. As (Sony hopes) BD becomes more popular the price of drives will fall drastically. So PS3's price will drop also.
