Sony's Bullshit ...

Although I don't hate Sony, it's not hard to understand why someone would take a full on anti Sony's stand, and Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Kaz Hirai's recent comment on PS3's release surely did not add more cred to the brand. Seriously , none.

Anyway, Maddox sums it up rather well, and direct:

Sony would love nothing more than to see you and your family suffer. Sony is like that psycho-ex who you had a few good times with, but was too clingy and the sex got boring. Now it's over and Sony is still stewing about it by leaving you voice mail asking for another chance and promising it "can change."

Tough shit Sony. We've moved on. We're dating your younger, hotter sister, Wii. Even your fuglier step-sister, Xbox 360, looks hotter than you do. At least she's been around the block a few times and knows how to turn tricks. You've got nothing, and it's going to stay that way until you stop being a crabby old C unt.

I dunno, Sony seems to be winning the advertising war when it comes to Wii. I hear 10 times more about PS3 than I do about Wii (at least in the general media).

Ps3

... regarding that, I donno neither. Down the road when the hype settles, we shall see if PS3 will turn out a winner. Most certainly I won't compare Wii to PS3, just to be fair.

I don't blame people for being pissed with sony.. not only do they overprice their console They don't even have enough units to meet demand. So even if you pre ordered a PS3 there is no guarantee you'll get one it's bullshit.

I think it's reprehensible that they advertise it so heavily and time the release before Christmas when they can't satisfy a fraction of the demand. That's just messing with kids. To have their ad in front of every movie I've seen lately saying 'The Wait is Over' is even worse when of course the wait is only beginning. From that perspective, I think it's nastier/more poorly planned than the the 360 rollout last year - but Microsoft also failed to honour lots of preorders. I'll wait until the high-def DVD format war seems to have a winner before deciding what to buy - if any.

They're a greedy company...
I wasn't old enough to understand back in the 80's but wasn't beta apparently better than VHS?
But Sony didn't care to share the technology?
Then came the mini-discs for music 4-5 years ago - before the iPod evolution.
Sony didn't care to share the proprietary rights and wanted the coin all to themselves.
Apple came along and DESTROYED the portable music industry with their flash based iPods.
Then Sony (if I'm not mistaken) essentially said, "hey, if you want the rights to the mini-disc come on over and here you go"...TOO F'ING LATE Sony.
I despise them as a company.
That's why I REALLY TRY to steer clear of them and their products.
OH and their fucking memory stick thing, they can shove it up their ass to.
Took a few years before they let other companies (SanDisk, Kingston, etc) to make memory sticks as well.

Fuck Sony...

it may be overpriced to you, but Sony loses a bunch on each sale

most new gaming consoles lose money at launch and there is never enough supply for demand.
thats why pre order is your safest bet. no camping in line up and an almost guarantee you'll recieve one

sony, microsoft and nintendo initially make the money of the software and accessories

That's very true, and the PS3 is in fact a steal if you're looking for a Blue Ray player.

A steal will be in one year when prices are more reasonable.
When blue-ray discs become the "official" norm of high-def quality dvds.
Till then, it's not a steal.
Well, it's a steal for Sony actually.

The key words IMO shuold be, when, and IF EVER.

Anyway, those punters who bought PS3 first hand for resale will make a few quick bucks. How far the profit will be off projection would be the big question and again, IMO.

Betamax anyone?

Will Blueray really become the standard? It won't if Sony pulls it's normal proprietary bullshit. I could be betamax all over again. Sony's greed works against it's desires to earn market share. If Sony stuff is not compatible with other platforms then it's doomed to eventually fall out of favour to another shared platform format even if that format is not technically as good.

You're right I should have said "if", not "when".
Hopefully it doesn't and then it'll bite Sony in the ass again.
First Beta, then mini-discs, now this...that'd be great.

Truth be told Sony could very well win the console war in a few years time. Time will tell.

I'd like to see Google come in and romp them with something.
Shit they got a fuckload of cash that they're sitting on.
Worth more than Sony itself :p

Blue Ray is the way a lot of the the optical media archive equipment is going because of the reliability. I don't mean back up but actual archive companies like Plasmonic. Plasmonic is doing some very cool blueray and nano technology innovations.
Sony loses money on every PS3 sold (roughly 330 US dollars). Same as the XBox and XBox 360 lost money.
Sony does way too many stupid things... Sony ENtertainment suing Sony Electronics over copy right infringement with CD burners and mini discs. SOmething about protecting their artists. Ok Beta well they assumed people would prefer a superior product and pay more then buy something of poor quality and pay less. People will risk their lives to save 50 bucks and not care about quality. Look at the way the majority of canadian dress to see that this is true.
Bottom line is the PS3 developers are not using the available technology to the fullest. But when they do Sony will seriously kick ass. The cell technology is almost unlimited in potential compared to XBox 360 technology.

way out in left field
Just remember one thing folks: whether it be SOny, Playstation, Nintendo, whatever, all these companies want to do is sell you more crap, and make money PERIOD. Do you think they give a rat's ass that people get killed over their product? Don't you think they just LOVE it when people line up for days just to throw money at them? Don't you think they just wring their hands in glee when they hear that people just can't live without their product?

People: it is called creating a BUZZ and the funny thing is, no matter how hard it is to get "the latest and greatest" the lemmings will do or pay whatever it takes....

I tell ya, if I could paint a POS gold and hype it so much that everyone wanted it, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

I know that the costs exceed the selling price (early in the product life cycle), but since they have a business plan to make up way more than this loss in game sales, I don't think it's relevant to customers. It's not like they're being generous. Just charging as much as they figure they can get away with to maximize profit.
