Janis,s version is loud ,raucous and undeniably great....and its a song i never get tired of hearing.................................but here is the original....a slower,quieter song but powerfully soulful...imo......

Bobby Darin's cover got close to the Weill/Brecht original from the Threepenny Opera.

Both composer Kurt Weill and lyricist Berthold Brecht became big during Germany's Wiemar Republic then were denounced by the Nazis. Both were gone by the time Bobby Darin recorded it.

im gonna post a couple of songs.........quick 2 minute songs that are simple in nature and would never make a 100 best songs list.........well except mine lol.......i never tire of them and always sing along when i hear them....and in my car i sing at the top of my lungs lol

Must have been a similar audience at The Peppermint Lounge in NYC when The Twist became a fad and Joey Dee & The Starliters were performing The Peppermint Twist there nightly in 1962...
