I know it's early and that it's a popularity contest more then talent, but how does Vince get number 4 when he is having such a shit season? He is getting pissed on in this city but yet people still vote for him so much.

Possible reason

Most votes are a result of homerism. People vote for the team of their city. In this case Toronto is Canada's team. I'm guessing Carter pull votes accross Canada.

This also explains why Yao is the leading vote getter with China supporting him.

This is the only reason I can think of. Carter definitely doesn't deserve to be an all star this year.

Lets face it -

Most fans are morons. If you want a proper all star game, let the players vote in their peers, let the GMs and coaches vote them in and the officials as well.

Fans are the worse judges of true talent - thats why theyre not in the front office.

T.O.
Artest would decline and continue plugging his rap album.

NBA stopped being about talent since high school kids started playing. Now the league has become a huge marketing department.

At least the East's starting line won't look too undersized with Shaq now in it.
Like the game is of any actual importance .

True enough, but it just looked so sad when you see Garnett, O'Neal, Duncan, Webber, Nowitski, Yao Ming vs a bunch of 6'6"-6'8" small forwards and Ben Wallace and Jermaine O'Neal the past few years. And other than Yao Ming the teams they played on were always strong teams.

As long as Vince has more votes than cousin Tracey...he'll be happy! If you want to watch an exicting team, check out the Phoenix Suns with Steve Nash. They are fun to watch.

And where is Nash on the voting list? I mean if Vince gets the Canadina vote, wouldn't you think Nash would get it first and this have more votes? Nash deserves to be there, not Vince.

Possible reasons why Carter still gets votes:

As long as Vince Carter spends time doing youth basketball camps in China...

or

As long as Americans lack the access of seeing Vince's "funny" side publicized by the Toronto Media, therefore only seeing and remembering his brief moments of greatness...

or

As long as Vince Carter's mom is allowed to fill out as many All-Star ballots...

I think America still sees VInce as the guy that won that dunk contest with the amazing dunk and they feel he's still the same guy. No one in the states gets to see him play on TV or read about him unless they really want to and seek it out. Therefore i think all the votes are just people that dont really know that he's a has been and are just going on the past years when he was in the spotlight

The fans want to see a tall guy who blocks shots, and as much as many T.O. fans dislike Carter, he is among the few who can put on a spectacular show.

You've got to understand that little kids fill-out most of these ballots. Most of them don't know anything about stats and they only vote for Carter based on his popularity for high-light reel dunks. It's pretty sad but thats the case, and Carter isn't as explosive as he once was.

Same thing with hockey. A few years ago Mike Modano was voted the starting center in the Western Conference but he was having his worst year...ever!!! There should have been at least 10 guys chosen ahead of him and he didn't even finish the year in the top 30 in scoring.

I feel that fan balloting might give the fans their say but it's also wrong. The players that start should deserve to start. Carter didn't derserve to be a starter or top vote getter in an all star game since 2001.
