Best way to watch totality, is on TV, bunch of suckers travelling all the way to Niagara for a few minutes of darkness, LOL!
I personally don’t get the hype either. I mean I get it is cool, the lighting will be weird and the sun is blocked which is weird.

I don’t get being stuck with millions of people, in over priced hotels with bump to to bump gridlock traffic for hours there and back and during just for 3.5 mins of a sun being blocked.

I have nothing against those going - do you. But that is just not a cost/time to experience ratio that computes for me.

Yes, cost/time to experience ratio is the same reason that I don't go to concerts but on the other hand - there is always another one.

I agree with your decision - it's only a total eclipse of the sun but millions are not going to stay in over price hotels and some like Phil are only investing ~ 30 to 45 minutes to catch a glimpse in Burlington. You do you.

For the record, I am not driving just to get out of the car look up for 3 minutes and go home. I will visit the towns I haven't seen and stop in a few vineyards that dot the area to test / purchase some of Ontario's finest wines. I look at the eclipse as a high point of a trip, not the only purpose.

Alternatively, I could spend the day at work - if cost/time ran my life.

I get to many it is a big deal. I’m not denying that, I just don’t get what that big deal is. That is my personally.

Are you saying I’m not allowing to agree with another person who also doesn’t get it and posted it first? I don’t think you are all suckers like he does.

Just for me the cost and time verse the experience is not enough for me. I get you are making a whole trip out of it but so are thousands of others. The idea of the crowds when you can go next weekend for half the price and less crowds. I would go tour vineyards then - sure. (Are they even open this time of year?)

I also don’t travel anymore. For the price of my yearly trailer fees, I get months of vacation like settings and outings compared to crowd airplanes, typical all-inclusives, etc.

But that is just me. I’m doing me - you do you. I just don’t get the hype.

Why are you so seemingly upset with my choice?

I suppose when you do the tally, the price for some, would be equal to, or greater than, going to see an escort. I am very close to the Kingston area ( will be a goat show) and the "Zone of totality" I plan on finding a remote spot via my ATV and enjoy the view.

Has anyone thought of hiring an escort for the eclipse and time an orgasm for the 3mins of totality outside?

Why do people do any vacations?

As for the big deal, this may be the only time in your life to be near totality of an eclipse. IMO worth a few minutes.

I think we should be a little bit more respectful here of the moon.

The moon only gets to pretend it is a cloud every few decades.

And the moon is underrated. The moon is the only source of light at night, and many sex workers and Johns are night owls.

By the time the overrated sun is up in the morning, it is usually light by then, anyway.

Same. I’m trying to organize getting my grandparents who this will certainly be their last one to go see it. not sure they will last the drive there if everyone is thinking the same

If you get stuck in traffic on your way to the Falls you can always get off the QEW and go to the most southern part of Burlington.
You'll get about 1 minute of complete darkness. If I cant make it to NF thats where I'll be (green dot)

Damn. Thought I was the only
one who thought of that. I’m expecting the highway will be a bunch of people rapidly stopping to catch thirty seconds. So everyone make sure you’re not one of them.

This would be epic to research. Considering the male and female bodies also rotate within the solar and lunar cycles. I wonder what Magic would take place while you’re attached for that entire moment

Boat might work, but I'm not sure I'd wanna rent a sea-doo when the water is still very cold
The OPP and Coast Guard will have their boats out on the water for the event. I thought about taking my boat out of storage for it but this weather is too unpredictable for temperatures. I suppose I could just use my canoe...oh sigh too much effort for 3 minutes...

Let's tackle these statements in order.

I just don’t get the hype. That conveys a total lack of understanding why people would be motivated to make an effort to witness this event. I am simply describing what the hype is about so that ignorance of the event doesn't cloud you reasons for not participating. For the first and only time in our lifetime, the sun will disappear in the daytime sky. If you are there, you will see various special effects as this event occurs. At 3 pm in the afternoon, it will be dark and you will see stars. An earie calm as you feel the chill of a slight temperature shift in the night around you. You are in the middle of an event that probably launch many religions among confused past generations. These aren't photographs - you are living the experience. So hopefully you cannot use your lack of understanding as an excuse for not participating. You may have an excuse ex: work, afraid of the dark/zombies, etc for not participating but ignorance should not be one of them. Also finding the event super boring is a valid excuse. You would not be alone. 99.9% of the animal kingdom share your perspective.

Why are you so seemingly upset with my choice? There was a thick condescending tone to your comment suggesting you were observing a band of lemmings lining up for hours following medias hype over a simple event. My post was to strip away the concept that 4 hours in traffic was the only way to observe an event occurring across a significant portion of southern Ontario.
