He IS havinga good year, dammit. We're gonna have to pay close attention to the lad!!

Giuly is a talent also, I hear. NON???

All in all I'm still picking Italy to win. The have a killer defense, great goalkeeping, a strong midfield and some "unknown" striker will come out of nowhere and start scoring goals. Maybe Di Vaio who I think is a phenomenal talent. My top picks are:

Italy
France
Holland
Spain
Germany

I would Agree to France and Holland....
But I do not Understand where you get Spain From?
Even Germany.... they are still far too Up and down.... and I think Ballack is Wayyyy too overrated.

The Team that scares me the Most is Holland.

The team that scares me the most is France. They need redemption from their fiasco two years ago. With Henry, Zidane Veira and the rest of that bunch...........look out Euro. --- Kev

Real Madrid's loss against Mallorca means that it's impossible for them to win the title this season. They spent all this money and have absolutely nothing to show for it. No Liga title, no CL cup, no Uefa cup and no League cup. Absolutely nothing!!!!

Am I the only one who thinks this is funny???

And it would be even funnier if Barcelona can catch them for 2nd spot.

Johnny, Barcelona also spent a lot of money in the off season and I think they'll spend more this coming summer (Trezeguet among others). What Real Madrid needed was a good defender and defensive midfielder (to make up for the loss of Makalele). Instead, they go and get Beckham, probably for promotional reasons.
It will be interesting to see what the big European clubs do considering most have had disappointing seasons (Real, Man Utd, Juventus etc.).

Going back to most home team's losing in the Euro Cup, don't they usually get a 'bye' since their hosting?

They dont have to qualify for the tournament if thats what you're referring too...

On another note, Serie A again proved how truly corrupt that league is. AC Milan only loses 1 game all year, and they lose to Reggina, whom now coincedently will not be relegated. Furthermore, relegation threatened Perugia defeats Roma 3-1 on the road? Again to avoid relegation. You could argue Milan/Roma have nothing to play for, but they shouldnt lose to these teams considering Modena & Empoli lost today AND those 2 play Inter and Lazio next week...seems to me they want certain teams out.

Maybe they did negotiate future trades should there be any "gem" on either of these lousy teams in the next Years..... (like a Moral Contract...)

I fully agree it smells like fish around these 4 teams....

A similar match-fixing charge was brought against Nigeria in France 98. Paraguay was accused of bribing the nigerian team so they could advance ahead of Spain. These things are probably happening a lot more then we, the public, are aware of but it's very difficult to prove.

Hey Snook, you may know more about this than I do but wasn't Marseille accused of match fixing the year they won the European Cup (93 I think)? I seem to remember that it was a French league match and that they were relegated to the 2nd division the following season.

I think its more apparent in Italy though than any other domestic league...too many times this year Milan and Juve got phantom calls to help their teams whereas the other big teams like Inter, Roma, Lazio, and Parma seemed to always get the short end.

I think that's true of most of the big clubs. Real Madrid are always accused of being given good calls. There was one this season against Valencia where Raul got a phantom penalty in injury time to tie the game. I think Man Utd and Arsenal are also probably singled out in England.
