Well im the proud new owner of Toyo Winter Tires and what a difference...as soon as i drove out...incredible...apparently the best maker(s) of tires now are all Asian, especially Toyo, Yokohama and Im assuming Kunhos in the lineup as well.
American made tires are not great in quality. Im only repeating what the guys at Tirecraft told me. They easily could have sold me the Michellin X-ice for a few dollars more but just by lookin at the treads the Toyo's were incredible.
Anyways, DOC', should have seen me on the way home, driving on the outside messy lanes.
Didn't suck to be me =P lol
CuteCob, good to see you got the winter tires.
Kunhos aren't up to same standard as Toyo & Yokohama. The latter two are best value and excellent performance and wear. X-ice, Alpin, Blizzark provide excellent grip but are pricey and wears out too quick. Alpin and Blizzark are almost useless after 2 seasons for aggressive drivers. Nokia, swedish, no relation to cellphone company, recognized as best deep snow tire (without studs or chains - not legal in most parts of Canada).
I have been proud owners of Nokia and Toyo for years. You will be happy with Toyo, good all around handling, good speed and corners, quiet tire in dry and snow. The only thing is when Toyo slips on ice, for example, start up at stop signs, you don't get enough prior feedback or warnings (as your tires start to spin), so be careful when your tires are on patch of ice and if you want to get out of traffic when you are at a stand-still.
I have a pair of plastic tracks (from Walmart ~$15?) in my truck to get out of really deep snow (>6") or ice. Fast and easy, I just throw them under the tire and I'm out. Canadian tire is selling 'easy-hook-up' plastic chains but too pricey for $130.
