So You Want to Buy a BMW

I'd love a new M3, but given my current debt load, that aint going to happen. And even if it did, it would not be something to drive in the winter (at least if there was snow on the ground).

That said, if you want to drive a BMW in the winter, I have to believe that the 335x would be just fine.

I have driven an Audi A4 in the winter and the Infiniti G35x and both were fantatic in the snow. The G35x with the snow tires was truly a tank. The benefit to the G37x over the BMW is a) price and b) performance and c) the AWD is not Full Time (which I consider a plus) but the BMW is a very nice ride, excellent handling, etc. Nothing to sneeze at. A buddy of mine has driven BMWs for 10 years and swears by them (and no, his were not the X drive)

The smart people are the ones that lease or buy with warranty for the first 3 to 5 years. Usualy its company paid anyways. The guys that take it up the ass are the ones that buy used and scream when they get a bill for repairs in the later years. You may be a lucky one that gets a trouble free BMW, but you pays your money and you takes your chances just so that you can get to be a WANNAbee.

I don't think they're ugly.

Far from it, to me, they finally have some design to them. They've evolved from boxes to having a bit of style.

the road of life.....
imho bangle's 5 series is ugly as shit in comparison to 2011 5 series (which is not on the road yet but the front of 5 series GT gives a good idea)

Bangle's vision for the E60 5 series was too great a departure from the E39 (which many persons, including myself.... think is timeless). The big ass on both cars never looked "right" - out of proportion.

Now, I think the new 6 series - which is a Bangle design - looks good - the lines flow very nicely. And, some of Bangle's concept cars that weren't built, especially the BMW M1 Homage concept and the BMW CS Concept 4 door were very sexy designs.

I'm not crazy about the 2011 5 series......

Buying any posh car like Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and some other brands is not a big issue over here, they are all good machines with their reliability, name, and fame too, but over here due to their brand name tag their maintenance is like Gold Prices, all mechanics are not trained to maintain them, so when one goes to these branded dealer-ships they are the biggest rip-off's just to change oil, filter and some normal check-up's after 15,000 Kms one has to dish out nearly 1K or even more these day's but if one owns a Japanese models their maintenance is so cheap, plus their parts are also affordable, this is the reason many conusmers are even afraid to buy premium cars these day's of economic crisis, i kept a Mercedes for over 5-years, but the amount i spent on its maintenance was humangous, that i finally decided to sell it off and have some peace of mind and have some money left in my wallet by having a Japanese Car for myself. American Cars are another problem their quality is not upto mark, that is why Japanese Cars are more popular over here in North America.

For what it's worth!
The BMW 3 series cars receive a very good recommendation by Consumer Reports each year, not so great for the 5 or 7 series.

The 5 series does have it share of detractors. It's a helluva a car to drive. But, it does have it share of nagging electronic issues.

BMW makes the Mini Cooper right? I hear that those are a pain in the ass for maintenance...can anyone confirm this?
I dunno about maintenance but it drives through snowbanks like knife cuts through butter
I'd buy if I lived in Europe, but I think in this country it might be sending misleading messages about my sexual orientation

I like the stiff ride of the German cars, you can feel the road. You always feel in control even at high speeds. Having said that I hate the outrageous maintenance costs. So, wtf, I buy an expensive car that requires me to pay extra on top for expensive parts and labour???

I read good things about the 2011 Mustang, I need to check it out.

i buy my vehicles strictly for the adrenalin rush i can get out of them, not for how cool they might appear. Therefore:

BMW r1200GS, Zero to 100km in close to 3 seconds flat. cost $25,000.00 Top speed, prefer to not disclose. i can pretty much outrun any tin "sports" can on the road so why would i spend 2, 3 or 4 times that much for something that feels like your mothers Oldsmobile if you were to try and keep up with me through some back road twisties or off a straight line start?
oh and yeah..the next time it wont be a Beemer cuz the bike has had a shit load of problems. The only saving grace is the 3 years unlimited km warranty. Once that is up it's back to the land of the rising red sun. might find a rig that can get me to a hundred in under 3 secs.

Comparing a sports bike to a car is like comparing apple to orange...

Anyhow, if I wanted a bike I will get a Triump or a Yamaha, not a Beemer

04 330ci 6speed was bought at higher km, drove 40k in 8 months from august to may. handling in the dry was great, even the warm and wet was damned good. winter was tougher than a fwd or awd, but better than my old infiniti j30t and q45. replaced a starter motor and did regular maintenance
